Has anyone heard about this??? Randy Blythe is the lead singer of the metal band "Lamb Of God" and he has been detained in the Czech Republic for 2 weeks now facing manslaughter charges from 2 years ago. He allegedy shoved a fan offstage after being rushed 3 different times by him during that show. The fan fell and died later from injuries resulting from the fall. Heres the kicker: his bail was set at $200,000. After posting the $200,000 for bail, the Czech courts doubled it and refused to release him! Love or hate his music but this is bullshit! If this was Lady Gaga or Justin Beiber it would start WW3. Before anyone says he shouldnt have shoved the fan think back to the murder of Dimebag Darrell on December 8th 2004 when he was murdered on stage IN FRONT OF HIS BROTHER, BANDMATES, AND FANS by a psychotic "fan".

The Czech Republic won't keep a high profile US citizen prisoner... It's no worth the bad publicity to the them. The last thing they want is to have economic aid cut off to them because of the singer from a metal band. I'm pretty sure they're probably just trying to leverage him for more money from the US government. Even if they did it's not really even a comparison to Pantera... I mean for real... What songs other than "Redneck", and "Laid to Rest" does anyone know or like?

It is bullshit (following the story on my local metal radio show), I've been to countless metal shows (including a LOG show), that's the same practice at every show, stay the hell off the stage, do it once, you get a warning, do it again and you get thrown (or kicked, that was hysterical  ). Sucks the dude died, but he made his own decision, everyone who goes to shows, knows the drill, Blythe can't be blamed. Same scenario of people blaming the band for pit tramplings, people in the pit, choose to be there, enter at your own risk. I could rant on about the lack of common sense, but I wont  .

I think you missed the point. It doesnt matter if they arent the face of music or as great as Pantera was(no one will come close). If you think that the 2 songs you mentioned were their best you obviously have never listened to them. I dont mean any disrespect or anything but I wasnt comparing them to Pantera I was comparing the situation to that of Dime's death. Dime's brother Vinnie(who happened to be on the drums when he watched his brother die) even said when Nathan Gale ran onstage the last thing he expected was 4 people to be dead 5 seconds later. I have been to these types of shows and I have seen first hand what happens to people that jump onstage and putting yourself in the performer's spot I would do the samething probably.

I wouldn't worry about the guy too much. They seem to think 3 or 4 years in prison is good enough for murder in Europe anyway. What the hell is wrong w/ the judges over there

He was actually released yesterday after posting bail. He is allowed to leave the country and never return.

I wonder how much politics was involved in his release. Not that we're talking about like John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, etc. or someone super famous like that... But there's no way in hell that the US government would allow a famous US citizen to be incarcerated in a foreign country without some EXTREMELY compelling evidence to prove their guilt.

And to respond to an earlier post... I'm not much of a Lamb of God fan I like some of their songs but I don't get caught up in one band or another. Last time I did that was in high school when I saw Les Claypool and Primus or one of his other bands a whole bunch of times (like 75% of the shows I have been to Les Claypool has played at) I'm still a Claypool fan, I don't think there's anyone that rivals him on electric bass... But there's SO much more to music than one genre or artist. I listen to what sounds good to me... Be it metal, alternative, classic rock, punk, reggae, classical, or some rap.

I gotta say though, my favorite bands/artists at the moment are probably the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Jimmy Buffet, and Johnny Cash. But it always changes... Next week it could be GWAR, S.O.D., Fairport Convention, The Grateful Dead, Hot Tuna, The Cramps, The Talking Heads, and Mozart. Like I said I like to listen to many different things, different bands and genre's all have their merits and some of them are brilliant.

I thought I heard he had to go back for a trial? Could be mistaken?

I'm a metalhead myself, so I've got nothing against the music or the band, but if the guy is accused of manslaughter, he should have his day in court. If it's found that he's responsible for the guy's death, he should go to jail for it. I agree that guys shouldn't be climbing up on the stage, I agree that security should do a better job keeping people off the stage, but I also feel that if a guy ends up on stage, you push him off, and he falls, hits his head and dies, you ARE responsible for this. If you want to make the penalties more severe for fans going up on stage to discourage them from doing this, I'm all for that too.

The situation I'm thinking of is this. Let's say you're a construction worker, and you're up on the second floor level installing steel girders. It's a dangerous place to be. There's a sign that says "no trespassing, violators will be prosecuted". A homeless guy sneaks by security, climbs up to the second floor, and approaches you. If you walk up to the guy and shove him off because he's "not supposed to be up there" and he falls to the ground and dies, you're going to be responsible for his death. Regardless of the fact that you're performing your job and he's not supposed to be up there and he's breaking the law by doing so, you're still not supposed to do something that causes his death. If you do, it's manslaughter at a minimum. Maybe you luck out and he falls on the grass and runs away. You're LUCKY. But if he dies, it's your fault. People's lives are more important than protecting the sanctity of the stage or the construction site. JMO.
