Here is the correct pitman for a manual box on a g body

I am glad that I ran across your answer to this guy's question. I have a 78 Caballero and the power steering is way too easy. If I sneeze too hard I am nearly thrown into the next lane. Is there a way too reduce the power steering
effect or would going manual be better?

Throw some caster at that sucker

I once worked on a '78 NOVA that had super fast power steering. Breath on the wheel and the car lurched over. Scary. So they are out there. As for the manual box just about any year Saginaw manual box will bolt up. The rag joint may be different on older models. The Pitman arm is different from power to manual. 800 series Pitman shaft is bigger than the 600 series and manual shaft. Grab a Pitman arm off a 600 series A or G body. It has the snap ring top cover while the 800 has the 4 bolt top cover.
So you’re saying they make a 600 and 800 box that will fit g bodys

Yes, my '81 Malibu wagon came with the crummy 605 power box which leaked like crazy. I swapped in an old Firebird manual box and the G-Body Pitman arm switched right over. The Pitamn shafts are the same. My '83 Bonnewagon came with the 800 power box but it had the "O" ring fittings. I was putting a '79 Pontiac 301 in and I wanted to use the flare fittings that came with the '79 PS pump. So I swapped in a '76 LeMans 800 PS box. The Pitman was different so I went to a local junk yard and grabbed a G-Body 800 Pitman from a Regal for $5.00.

1980 and newer will use the Saginaw style fittings which seal with o-rings . If you use a newer steering box on a 78 or 79 you can either try to track down adapters OR use the pressure and return hoses off of an 80 or newer model.

This is a picture of the manual box on my 1985 mc is it a 600 or 800 box and which one is better
