Front license plat bracket?

You could. If you're neck was red. 🙂 If you want to do it right, you won't.

The GM part number for the flat square nylon nuts is 4755299 or 3907444. They're interchangeable. These are likely the nylon deals you can find at all the auto parts stores. Advice, get the thick-ish yellow nylon ones. The pure white/black are made of very poor plastic that gets brittle with age. My BIL never listens and he bought those inferior kind and his crap always breaks.

BTW, the unobtanium pull handle is GM p/n 14068832.

looks like the nylon nuts are still in my bumper but think i'll order a set anyway to make sure. hardware kit available too?

thanks for the great information

These are the screws that would be closest to "factory correct" for the mid-80s G-body Olds. They were simple flat head style, they did not come with the Philips head option. If your car came with the VK3 front bracket option (some states didn't require front plate) then you got 6 screws to mount your front and rear plates.

And, according to the parts book, there's also supposed to be some standoff nylon nuts, p/n 559547. This is really a round peg that fits in a square hole. Without the thicker nut you may strain the bracket mounting points which leads to breakage and loss of bracket. I've never had the bracket off the 85 so I'll have to check it out. I believe there was the standard license plate nylon square nuts on the upper section of the bumper but I think these were used on the bottom. Again, I'll have to check. Amazingly, I just found this out recently. The parts book doesn't really specify the nylon nut use but it's right under the bracket listings. Which is odd because the call out is for all the series using the same nuts and number per car is "AR" (as required). It's also called out to be used in a couple other places on the car but can't recall where at the moment. I'm just wondering if the factory even used these kind.

I've owned over 25 of these cars and have never not once seen those standoff's used on any of them for the front plate bracket and have never seen them on any of the VIN9 front bumpers I have stockpiled, they all have the flat ones in them.

I haven't recalled that either, but that's what the parts book shows. I've got several of each, so we'll see if it the standoff works better. If it's in GM documentation, you're covered. Even if it's technically "wrong".

I just found two of these in my favorite yard. Used one on my coupe after I put the new plate pocket in.

well i used the stand offs. looks like it fits ok. the lower tabs didn't reach the holes in the underside of the bumper so i just made a little extender for it. its on nice and tight and looks way better then it did before in my opinion.. looked too unfinished up front. not sure if a trim piece was supposed to be there or what on cars with no front plate.
