Fuel line Heat echxanger

I've been reading online for awhile now about building a heat exchanger to transfer heat from the radiator to the fuel line, and from what I can tell people are seeing positive results and gains in fuel economy.

So i figured what the hell and put one togethor for my 1995 GEO metro 4 cyl, i adverage 35 normally and most of my driving is highway, almost 100 round trip daily to work. I filled up and reset the trip meter so we'll see how well it works. Plus if this idea duds out i can swap the original fuel hose back into place very easily and let the rest just hang loose, won't hurt the cooling any.

Wow, so like i said i adverage about 250 to 260 miles per tank. Right now i'm alittle below half a tank and i'm at 180. So far this is looking good, we'll see once i hit E.

Also i'd like to note that the engine feels more responsive, and i don't have to give it as much throttle going up hill. It's not a MAJOR thing, but it's noticable. 😀

You do. However you do get better fuel economy (to a point) if the fuel is hotter because it atomizes easier.
 
Exactly, i know people that used to run cool cans on there drag cars, cooler fuel better charge. However having fuel hotter helps it atomize. So far this is proving true


The other day it was 95 degrees here, still havn't had a problem.
 
back in the mid 1980's Smokey Yunick experimented with what he called a fuel homonigizer. I don't re-call the specifics but I do remember the use of a turbo, not to boost engine pressure but used to super heat the fuel to an almost vapor like form. I remember a mid 80's fiero 4 cylinder as a test bed. results showed a cleaner, smoother running engine with an almost DOUBLING of horsepower with an increase of 1.5 to 2 times increase in fuel mileage. All this with a simple 2 barrel carb and h.e.i ignition. don't know what became of this. tryed researching this further but could not find the exact details of how to make this system work. probably squashed by some big oil lobbyist.

I think this lists under "Urban Myths".
I'd bet this has been tried since soon after the gasoline engine was invented.
If heating the fuel had such enormous advantages at least one car maker would have jumped on it to make a sales killing.
The oil companies wouldn't get far in Europe or Japan where gas prices and fuel economy are major factors for the car buying public.

There was an article in Hot Rod a few years ago about that engine... Interesting stuff.
