Fuel sending unit fuel return

On the mid 80s Carbureted g bodies, on the sending unit (3 line), how far does the return line drop into the tank? Does it end near the bottom? Or does the fuel just dump into the top of the tank?

Even modern high pressure returns dump at the top of the tank. Saves 2 cents.

Thanks. The aftermarket EFI kits and pumps all have concerns with fuel aeration if the return doesn’t extend deep into that tank.
