I'm late to see this one. But the VQ is probably one of the WORST sounding engines out there. There are a few 350 and 370s with straight pipes that like to drift the traffic circle behind my house.

Just awful. I wish the owners a slow and painful demise
4 cam phazers and 3 timing chains, plus an internal water pump. The only thing that could make it worse is if it was in a Ford and you had to remove the cab to work on it.

I had to strip the intake and half the top end crap off to do the plugs in the GF's infinity, which is a VQ. Lame.

We have a healthy Spec Z racing class here, and those cars are damn reliable. They sound like ear piercing *ss though.

True, momma loves here's and it has like 170k miles on it.

Couple guys around here yanked out the VQ and they are turbo 5.3l setups now, so there's that.
That's only if you want cheap HP and cheap maintenance. The LS is the solution to both.

Sounds second only to a German car to work on.
Could be. But I haven't pulled wrenches on a Mercedes or Nissan yet so the jury is still out.

BMW sucks pretty hard though. Until you add the solution for cheap HP to it.

Sounds about as awful as the engines.... I have always had a thing for Nissan/Datsun Z cars. My first car was almost an 87 300ZX turbo. My Dad talked me into a Camaro instead. The Z's have always stayed a sports car at heart and I've appreciated that. I was pretty hyped on the 400Z as well. If they hold up well used and are great deals like the 370-350's are... you never know.

I'd say the exception to that rule is the MK1-MK3 Jetta/Golf's My 85 Jetta Wolfsburg had Mechanical fuel injection and was a total treat to work on. Very simple car. It's a shame it ate 020 transmissions like I eat cookies.
