Older guy at my job put one of the Dodge Trucks we have into a tree. Got out thinking he put it in park and all he did was turn the radio down, truck idled off down a little hill and found a nice pine tree to stop in. 🤣

Had a rental with the transmission dial. Out of curiosity, I twisted it to Park while in motion. Nothing happened. Not even a warning light. Until you stopped moving, then it shifted to Park. So one could easily accidentally turn the dial to another gear, pull up to a stop light and then sit their revving their engine like an idiot. Accidentally shifting to Reverse would be worse.

Not that the dial idea is bad, Just the placement on the dash is stupid.

Well, John Deere just lost that right to repair lawsuit, hopefully that movement picks up some steam in the automotive world. That said, I suspect by the time JD complies it'll still price the little guy out of doing much of anything.
I haven't looked into it in detail, But I think all that means is that JD must make their repair and diagnostic tools available to third parties. And it doesn't have to be free either. I don't think the ruling stops them from shutting the tractor down at the slightest detected issue. All it's doing is prevent you from having to go to the dealer. But it's a start anyway.

John Deere does have some cool tech, as I'm sure other Tractor manufacturers do. they even want to release ones that are fully self driving.

Curious if you tried park why not reverse? It may we'll have the same fail safe.

They did say you could fix stuff but emissions would still be locked down like ft Knox.
