G-Body Seat Questions

78-88 Monte, Cutlass, Regal, and Grand Prix rear seats are interchangable.

Malibu and Lemans rear seats are different.

All will fit but you might have a small gap between the rear deck and the rear seat in a Malibu and Lemans if you use a Monte, Cutlass, Regal, and Grand Prix rear seat in them.

All year G-Body front benchs 78-88 are interchangable.

All year G-Body 78-88 front 60/40 and buckets are interchangable, and use the same inner seat mounts in the same location.

Drivers side 60/40 seat brackets will work with a drivers side G-body bucket.

Passengers side 60/40 seat brackets will work with a passenger side G-body bucket.

No mods are necessary to the floor just weld in the mounts.

What ever seats you get make sure you get the tracks. This way you just avoid the headache.

You guys are right. Unless I am prepared to buy a welder and learn to weld (or pay someone) I should stick with the bench I have.
This motor is talking all my money. The transmission is going to take the money I don't have yet.
Just looking for an inexpensive way to make the seats look good.
I think the answer is a blanket until I know exactly what I want to do.
I don't think I want to spend the money reupholstering the bench, then 2 months later decide I want a split bench or buckets.
I should drive it as is for a while.

Thanks for the comments.

Great info Turna!!!

Thanks.

I guess the only thing I am curious about is if I decide to do some welding will any seats from newer cars fit. Like something from the 90s or 00s? Like something from a Cadillac?

I assume some of the newer car front seats will fit. The backs will be the tough ones.

Anything can fit if you make it fit. You would basically need to take the tracks from a gbody and attach those to the cadillac, or whatever you want to use, seats. After welding the brackets to the floor, of course. Hit the yards where you live and see if there are any g bodies with decent bench seats. Or post a wanted to buy ad on here and keep your eyes peeled. People do these conversions all the time.

If you want Cadi style seats look at some of the BROUGHAM edition Cutlass seats.

They have the thick plush pillow top style cushions and they are a direct bolt in.

I used S-10 Blazer buckets on Cutlass tracks... They are close but just a tad smaller in width on the cushion area.

Might be too late to get a nice set of 91 and up front drive Park Avenue or 98 Regency cloth or leather power seats. Seats from these cars are a bolt into any G-body. If you have a console, you need two passengers as pictured below. If not, you can use the 60/40.

It really is a PIA to change over a bench car to a bucket seat car. I bought an el camino with a bench seat and installed Park Avenue 60/40 seats in it today. Had the el camino come with split seats, it would have saved me a bunch of work. I was lucky I had an extra G-body shell sitting out back, so I cut the center bucket mounts out with a sawzall. I freed the mounts from the floor sheet metal, and I opted to bolt them to the floor with quarter inch bolts a half inch long instead of having it welded.

That looks great Red.
In your first post with the picture of the seats in the car, did you swap the rear seats too? It looks like they match.
If yes, how hard was it too make them fit?

Thankyou! Yes, you can just see the rear seats in there. There is no difficulty installing them at all. They fit right in and appear to belong. They are about an inch or so wider than the original seating they fit snugly, but quite easy to take in and out if necessary.
