G-body underdog rant

haha, go to import shows when u can, a lot of those guys are our age or at least our mentality, and most of them would respect the hell out of a car like yours. plus no music pre 90's haha.

lol... and? if u dont wanna race ignore em lol. or find an import event at a local drag strip so u cant eat some rice.

Car shows these days are a joke, it's all about the money...kinda like buying the trophy.

BTW, older guys have money issues, too. 47,2 young kids, mortgage, wife's car payment, neverending home maint/repairs....I envy the under25 group that for the most part "seemingly" have few drains on their resources, whether it be time or money.

Enjoy your car, build what makes you happy, and to hell with the rest of 'em

I have a friend that's about a dozen years older than me who just can't get why I don't build a 60s era car..."something that'll be worth something when it's done". I tell him I build G bodies because I like 'em, and the early stuff really doesn't do it for me anymore. Too expensive to buy into, and everybody has one, and they all look alike anymore. But, bottom line, I really like G bodies.

it worries me if my kids will have cars to build... im saving the cutlass for that sole reason...

I'm not exactly a young gun myself but I do know what you mean. Now it is not always the younger crowd that gets put out. Example being I went to a car show today with my wife, her dad and a few guys from the car club I am in. My father inlaw entered his 68 Camaro in the modified class. Now I am not saying this because he is my father inlaw and we get along great but we all felt he should have walked away with a trophy. He got beat out by a 73' Challenger and a 68' Charger. Now the Challenger was nice and clean and had a few hop up parts on it and in general was a nice car but wasn't up to the level the Camaro was. And the Charger did belong to one of the guys in my car club but was a factory stock car except for wheels. He even said wtf. We all question why he got put in the modified class and not the stock class. And by the way the camaro was the only first gen one there. As far as "young guns" most around here are into imports and when a younger person shows up in a older domestic most people think they bought the car the way it is and didn't build it. They also don't go up to the younger people and talk to them and see what they are about. Well anyway here are some pics of the Camaro I was talking about. It took him 9 yrs to build this thing and it is perfect in everyway.

Same here on this end. At first when I got my malibu it was stock and I had no interest in it. But after dad told me I can do whatever I want to it, well it got better. I don't want to buy a "new" car that has all the technology on it cause you just can't fix those yourself anymore. So I stick with carburated vehicles. My 71' Roadrunner is a really nice mopar, and my second car, is the dream car I've always want so I don't think I'll be buying anything else. Malibu is the custom car and the roadrunner will be the factory restored car.

Now I understand that old folks have money troubles as well. I'm not trying to organize all older people into one category. My aim is specifically at those retired guys who have "REALLY deep pockets" and pick up trophies off their buddies who just happens to be a judge. That's why I was pissed when they let that blown tall T into the street "best engine sound" competition when that thing didn't even have mufflers and it should have competed with the dragsters cause he was even louder than them. I know I'm overly competitive, but its cause I see all these other nice high dollar cars that have their displays with all their trophies.

Here's me and my dad's cars and my 71 roadrunner:

if you want a show board designed, i can make you one over the summer. Im doing an AP art class next year in graphic and computer design, and i need all the practice i can get.

Dad just told me today he's already got one on the way for me. The guy is custom drawing a cartoon of my malibu along with a bunch of other stuff (Go figure after I was up till 6 this morning making a cheap one lol).
