Curb Weight For 86 Olds Cutlass: Weight is in lbs as taken from the owners manual. I'm guessing this is the base weight with things like handling package and the V8 adding some weight.

Supreme Coupe: 3204
Supreme Brougham Coupe: 3243
Supreme Sedan: 3256
Surpeme Brougham Sedan: 3286
Cutlass Salon: 3280
442: 3514

I like how they label it in the book as a coupe, but GM official calls the 2 door gbodies as being 2 door sedans.

Parts store note: Cutlass supreme often denotes the 4 door and not the 2 door.

From a dealer sight: Curb Weight: 3181.00 Pounds for the 2 door supreme

I wonder why the 442 is listed as so much more than a Salon, seeing as they are essentially the same, equipment wise when ordered with the 307. From what I have seen in old brochures, the only thing relevant to weight that differs would be the 8.5 rear axle, and 15x7 wheels in lieu of 14x6's.

What was standard on the Salon package?

I was thinking maybe the standard 4 speed, upgraded suspension, 8.5 rear, the wheels, and maybe power everything? I think they also had standard dual exhaust and the cast iron manifolds (maybe).

The Salon package differed from the 442 only in that the 442 had the 307 as standard, and the Salon was a V6, the wheel size, and the rear axle. Otherwise, the 442 was basically just a more powerful version of the Salon with the optional V8. Both had the same basic bucket and console interior except for the emblem used on the upper door panel, which is also shared with the Brougham model ( 1987 excepted as the 87's were base Cutlass based 442's and not Salons). No Cutlass had power windows or locks as standard, it was always an option. In fact, my 442 Brochure from 1985 shows it with manual crank windows.

So from reading this a big cutlass only weighs around 3400lbs? My 2001 SS camaro weighs over 3600 with an all aluminum LS1 so how can that be true? If it is then great but I was under the assumption these cars weighed in close to 4,000 lbs with a cast iron V8 under the hood. Wow, learn something every day.

st-jean baptiste ,quebec,
personnaly being lucky enough to own an LT1 cutlass .....

the main reason i went for this engine was that it does weigh 503 lbs with alum heads ,alum w/pump+ headers ....

and ill take off the bumper reinforcement ,put the battery in trunk ,

and every night ,I pray to get an alum hood .....

my main goal is like 85 cutlass brougham said : to get the best possibe weight distribution

Here are some official weights from GM, as published in the 1985 MVMA Specifications. I happen to have the 85 Grand Prix specs in front of me, but others should be similar for base weights and the option weights will be the same:
Grand Prix base - 3231.4 lbs (55.3% f, 44.7% r)
Grand Prix LE - 3252.0 (55.6 % f, 44.4% r)
Grand Prix Brougham - 3269.8 (55.4% f, 44.6% r)

These weights are "of a vehicle with standard equipment only as designed with additional load of oils, lubes, coolant, and fuel fulled to capacity of 18.1 gallons"

Major options:
Power seats 11.2 lbs
55/45 seat 10.6
power locks 4.2
power windows 5.7
vinyl top 7.3
t-tops 36.0
power sunroof 58.2
air conditioning (LG4) - 49.2
FE3 suspension 23.0
5.0L engine 87.7

The weights for the options are the additional weight over and above the base equipment. For example, the 5.0L engine would add 87.7 lbs over and above the V6 that comes standard.

As for my own car - I actually have had it on 4-corner scales. That was eye-opening! 85 Grand Prix LE with every option including the power roof...to which I added an iron headed 400 Pontiac, with a full 3" exhaust system with dual cats, a TH200R4 trans, 8.5" axle, 17" wheels, and a big stereo with subs and two amps. Still, I didn't think it would be as bad as it was considering all the fiberglass body panels, aluminum core support, radiator, waterpump, intake, driveshaft, etc. Battery is in the trunk as well.

Total: 3726
RF: 1025
LF: 1073
Front: 2098 (56.3%)
RR: 818
LR: 812
Rear: 1630 (43.7%)

This was with 5/8 tank of fuel, no driver. If I ever get the car out of paint jail I've got a plan to get back down to around 3600 lbs (aluminum heads being a key component).
