Garbage Problem - What would you do ?

In New York if you take garbage and out in your car that is illegal but if you are on foot and pick it up it is legal to do so. The security guards may be looking at you as a trespasser but if you live at the complex you have a right to be there during your off hours. If the garbage was in a bin/dumpster then it may be illegal to remove it.

Exactly, my job and my county landfill/recycling center both have signs stating that their garbage is THEIR garbage, and you will be prosecuted for taking their trash. What is this world coming to? "I didn't want it, so I threw it out. BUT, NO! You can't have it!" Asinine.

In NYC we recycle everything. Metal left at the curb gets grabbed by scavengers that then take it to a recycler for cash. Shitty City will prosecute you for taking "their" metal scrap. That said, dumpster diving is a big sport here and I have scored everything from perfectly good tools to brand new kitchen cabinets. You just gotta be low profile.

for recyclables you are right, for trash it is a different story

Not here

Trash is $$$$$$$$$$

Downtown NYC where the Twin Tower once sat.......Landfill

Starrett City Brooklyn 46, 20 story buildings home to 6000 people..........former NYC garbage dump landfill

This made LOL since I live upstate and have to deal with the garbage trucks rolling thru my tiny Town seven days a week, every four hours or so. Non stop for over a decade now. Seneca Meadows landfill is where a lot of your garbage ends up. Nestled nicely in between the fingerlakes region of central NY. You don't recycle anywhere near.as.much as you think. Our transfer station, used to be a dump, we have to sort everything out. Been like that since I was a kid. Maybe 1984ish or so is when it started in our town.
