gas gauge

i was driving my 86 regal then all of a sudden my gas gauge stopped working its like acting crazy going all the way around and stuff how do i fix this prob :?:

Could be an open short or the sending unit in the tank went bad. Check the wires first. If that checks out Ya gottta drop the tank, remove the sending unit/fuel line assembly and test the resistance. Reading will be 0-90 ohms. I had the same problem and replaced mine with a EQUUS 9982 for less than $10.00.
