Has anyone replaced the torsion bars for gas struts for the trunk lid?. I am trying to figure out the pressure I need..

Thanks

I just installed new struts in my '81 because the originals were worn out.

Even the new struts can barely hold the trunk lid open. I'm guessing that's one of the reasons they went to the torsion rod setup later on. Those will last forever.

I have a smaller spoiler than yours but I'll need that into consideration as well....thanks. I forgot that when I release the trunk it only pops up just a little with the extra weight of the spoiler.

Ive been thinking of grabing a set(gas struts)from a hatchback(Camaro, firebird) and trying to fab something up,as I took out torsions and dont have a clue on how to reinstall? Antone know how to reinstall them without loosing a hand as I understand these are under great pressure/load?

Yeah, the car I have them on is the '81 which doesn't have a spoiler at all. It's just the stock trunk lid. So anything more than the weight of the stock trunk and these shocks won't work.

thanks again, this forum sure saves me money and time, pre computer I lived in the trial and error era and the errors cost $$$ ..

I need some better shocks for mine. Dont ya hate when youre working in the trunk area and the deck lid falls down on your head? Ouch. The spoiler on mine prob don't help.
