Gear suggestions.

So did you buy the car with a 9" already in there?

Assuming you are keeping the three speed I probably would not go lower than a 3.73 but if you want to go on the highway I would be looking at 3.42 or 3.23, your 383 when it get's in there will have plenty of torque and hopefully a matching converter to get it in the powerband so you are not going to need a really low gear to get it moving.

Thank you sir. Assuming I would go with 373-410, how wouldn't figure a good stall without knowing much about the motor?? Can anyone make some suggestions for this??

Do you have a converter now if not I would probably by a cheap converter for your mild combo around 2000+ and buy the correct stall for 383 later on when you put that in, the mild engine is not going to like the high stall converter that will be needed for the 383.

I figured, just not very knowledgable on the converters. So how would the car act if the stall is too high??

Depending on what converter your 383 requires it will most likely be far too high for your mild engine and it could end up being lazy off the line, and also could end up getting terrible mileage along with the possibility of overheating the transmission fluid.

Thanks a lot. That's exactly the kind of advice I'm looking for.

Summit sells a 12" converter for $105 that stalls up to 2,100 that would probably work fine behind your mild set up until you get the 383 in there.

Thank u sir. I'll look into that. I know a guy who builds nice 383s for a fair price. So honestly I don't know if I should buy one of them or do all I can to my motor. It's a very low mileage motor but money is always a factor and I don't see how I could get as much from it as I could a 383. I would be in the same price range by time I stroked it and had it machined heads cam etc etc. so that's why it's kinda hard to put all the pieces together as I go. If that makes any sense at all
