The shop told me today that my 1980 T Top Monte is a lost hope. He took a look at the rear half of the frame, and it's rusted all the way through. Both sides. His suggestion was, take the perfect engine out of it, and get a new car. Paying big bucks for a frame transplant isnt worth it for the car. WHAT.

So I think to my self, damn. I put hours of work into this car. To ya'll it might be little work, but That engine bay is truly spotless.. The body is in PERFECT shape. T-Tops are perfect. Interior gauges, perfect. I'm a little stumped. I need your input. I heard the rear end cancer is an epidemic for g bodys. I scoured all the junk yards in the area for rear ends. All are chopped off...

I really love this car, and grown an attachment to it. But the truth is, a car is a car. So is it worth it getting a new frame for it? or getting a healthy new g body and use this as a parts car.

Thanks for the input. It is a sad day indeed

If the body is solid and straight I would look for a new frame. They arent that expensive maybe a couple hundred bucks most areas. A solid rust free gbody is going to be pretty expensive atleast around here. The only trouble with doing a frame off is finding the area to do it. I vote save the car.

definitely swap the frame! Or even get one of the reframe kits if its just the back portion of the frame! Hard to find a rust free G body now days!!

thats how I feel about it too.. it costs about 4 grand to get the rear frame transplant..

but here, a 100% restored g body monte with drivetrain in full working order, and with a full sound system is only worth 6 grand.

I just found one properly lowered all the way around, also with a sound system, new paint, interior etc for 3 grand just cause it has a bad engine.. If I would compare to what mine, which is only in half as good of a shape paint wise, then It seems logical to get a healthy frame car and sell this one as a project.. ugh, I don't know. Well kept G bodys are cheap and common here in vancouver. but the rainy weather is just terrible for them

You didn't say how much of the frame was gone. Dito Guru - If you just need frame rails they make replacments. [email protected]

its rusted all the way from the tail to the door
Will this be enough to cover that much frame?

If its that bad you will need to replace the frame. If you can do it yourself go for it - paying someone will be costly
