Getting the F' Outta Dodge.

Can you imagine that much old age and treachery in boot camp? You'd have them answering to you.

I put a 55 year old South American immigrant through basic. That man was an inspiration to the candidates... and me. Lived a proper hard life. No quit. Hard as Peter North.

It would be hilarious to re-enlist just to mess with some NCOs and a green Lt. Pte-to-LCol-to-Pte without the court martial.

Once again... things they would never get in Ontario. Another Saturday on the ice with the gym teacher, this time a mini-hockey camp.

The only girl. Not that it matters.

Sun came out and so did the skills.

She scored the only goal on her team (by a kid) shortly after this.

This was her first time playing ice hockey since the start of the pandemic. Masks come off on Tuesday. Plan to have her back in house league next season.

Thinking aloud here but based on what I get in water from a five gallon pail of snow, about a gallon and a half, if you start buying those large soft bodied water tanks and fill them with snow, you will have water for the summer and growing things or have an asset that you can sell or trade to one of the farms for some fresh produce or old car parts; the further north in the province you go, the more likely to run into ancient stashes of dead cars. The old school farmers never tossed out anything.

Thing about the water is that with Putin having a mental breakdown and trying to resurrect the Soviet,,the Ukraine will not be exporting wheat this year which opens an opportunity for Saskatchewan to grow and sell more wheat but to do that they need water. You can cistern water or snow if you have them to use or go portable and just add snow as what is in the cistern melts until it is full. Can't drink the stuff without putting it through some serious purification drills but for large scale gardening it will keep your beds and plots from drying out, or,, like I said, sell it to someone who needs it.

you're pretty brave standing out in front there.....

and while she may have been the only girl out there, wearing a pink helmet and all, she wasn't the one wearing the white skates 🙂

LOL - I actually called her my little Happy Gilmore yesterday. Maybe my daughters will grow up to be the Happy Gilmore Girls. And that was another teacher - a "woman" according to old science.

We have two sloughs on the property - they might be filled with the spring run-off. We'll see. We have a couple of rain barrels to set up for the garden, and are thinking of having a well drilled this year.

Challenge is we don't want to be farmers, but becoming much more self-sufficient is a definite plan.

I get the not wanting to go commercial or industrial here; the work load is 24/7/365 and brutal into the bargain. No rest for the wicked may have been a phrase coined with farmers in mind (Not that they are particularly wicked, y'know)

But even for a large scale private garden for the family for growing and harvesting enough veggies you still need some serious moisture. Go big enough and you have excess that you can take to the local farmer's market and either sell off or trade for stuff other folks have to offer. Supermarket prices this year are going to be brutal.
