HAFROD got me feeling all nostalgic with his "first project car" thread.
So, what about the rest? The lost loves and bad decisions?
Coincidentally I have been working on these poster-sized collages to be printed for the house and garage.
Believe it or not we owned all four of these cars at the same time.
1991 Sundance - HEMI orange turbo 2.5L with Turbonetics turbo and Spearco FMIC, 5 speed manual, Shelby stuff, exhaust dump, 4 wheel discs, etc. It leaked water, had epic electrical shorts, and ate engines thanks to me over-boosting it. We are pretty sure it was painted with a Wagner fence painting gun because it had crazy stripes in the paint that made it look like a watermelon. My brother blew it up once, and so did I. It sat in the driveway with a blown head gasket until it was sold as a roller. Natasha hates discussing this car - mostly because she could never learn how to drive it. One of the fragged pistons sits on my desk at work as a reminder that you really can have too much boost.
1991 Camaro Z28 - 305 TPI with lots of ported stuff and cam, WC T5 (fuel economy version), 3.08 posi, headers and dumped 3" exhaust, etc. Total rust bucket with fragged strut towers, front frame, and body holes everywhere, worn out suspension, and eventually died thanks to a rotted lead to the starter. Parted it out and made most if not all of my money back. This thing was a pretty cool piece of crap - never washed it once. Natasha actually wants me to get another one - weird.
2002 Camaro B4C - LS1 with a few free mods, remaned 4L60E from a Tahoe, 4.10 posi from an S10, Corvette wheels, polyurethane bushings everywhere, cat deletes and exhaust dump, worn out stock struts and shocks, etc. This was Florida State Highway police interceptor we bought from an importer in Kitchener (or London?) and the paint and bodywork was always suspect after the sale (a real piss off seeing as we paid extra for a repaint). It leaked power steering fluid like mad and ate alternators annually, and it was hit by a dump truck with Natasha was driving it which lead to a bunch of body shop *ss-pain. My brother and I did Power Tour 2012 in it, and it broken down and refused to start on the US-CAN border on the way home. What a nightmare of a car (Who am I kidding? We loved it), but parted it out last year.
1987 Turbo T - Stock 3.8 with a big turbo and FMIC, TH400, 3.08 posi, big wheels and sticky tires, lots of suspension work, 4" exhaust, etc. This car was a notorious street race car before I took ownership; I was actually riding with a friend years prior and he refused to race it. When I did take possession it was a borderline rusty roller filled with a bunch of cool-guy go fast parts. I had previously purchased a worse rusting hulk of a Buick which had a good engine - and built one car out of two (and made a lot of money back on the spares). It got "restored" in 2006 and I immediately stuck it in storage, and went off for some good ol' Army training for the Summer; and then came to find out that my brother stole it after he blew up my Sundance and drove it to Windsor while I was away. Later I would drive it to my wedding for pictures in 2011, and gave my brother the keys for the day (never did get around to killing him). Sold it off as shown last Spring. Great car, but it was showing its age again and it was no good for the family. Used most of the money from the sale to hop up the TBSS and do Drag Week 2016 with my brother.
