I'm sure this topic has been covered before, but I realize there's a trick to removing the glovebox lock. I would like to remove the lock (and inside liner) to be able to paint the glovebox door when I repaint my dash.
I have noticed a small access hole at the edge of the glovebox adjacent to the lock cylinder. I have tried using a paper clip, but to no avail. Can someone tell me what the trick is to remove the lock? It's not locked, and I don't have a key to it.
Thank you!

If someone chimes in before tonight, I may have to go home and take a small video or pics. At one time I figured it out, but have since forgot :-?

I am sure I would remember if it were sitting in front of me.

Jack, I think you need the key if my memory serves me right, You have to lock it then use the paperclip/ small allen key to jab in that little hole.

You may be able to mess with the visible tumblers to get it to lock. I guess this is for the GP dash?

Steve,
Thank you very much for the informative video. The guy shows you clearly how it's done and speaks clearly as well. I will go out shortly and give it a go.
Thanks again buddy!

Thank you Jim. I'll let you know how it works for me.

Well, I looked at the lock a little further, and it's not the same lock as the video. I finally got it apart. It has two small access holes to release the tumblers, rather than the one square window as pictured in the video.
After taking it apart I put it back together to keep it in piece...and wouldn't you know, I locked the SOB. Well, at least I removed it from the glovebox door so I can paint it.
I'll either get a new lock, or have a locksmith key it to my existing door locks. You live and learn.. :?

I was feeling that I let you down posting the wrong video and didn't know how I could ever make it up.....but I had a beer and I think I can live with myself again... 🙂

glad you got it off...

found this on olds power posted by FE3X Clone..

1. Open I.P. compartment door and rotate lock cylinder to the locked position.

2. Insert wire in hole in edge of I.P. compartment above lock

3. Depress each tumbler in turn while pulling on knob to remove lock cylinder.

The trickiest part is getting a feel for when you have depressed the tumbler. When it is depressed, you can't pull out on the lock with the wire in there. You kind of have to slide the wire out as you pull. I was being pretty forcefull with mine and couldn't get it to budge at all. It wasn't until I started giving it a lighter touch that it just slid right out.

Steve,
You're right, it required a light touch. At least now I know how it works and comes apart. Thanks for your help, though.
You certainly meant well.
