Everything I found said 400-425 with the LT4/Hot Cam, LS2 Blue springs and some Comp Cams retainers....good to .580 lift with no machine work...I triple checked it. Works like a champ!

Are you running this combo^^^^^? Not trying to start an argument, but at .580 lift you will not have enough retainer to valve guide clearance. If you're doing it, then I'd like to see it. BUT, cutting the valve guides down is not a chore at all. Very easily and cheaply done with the heads removed.

Hey, I know, nobody wants to admit it BUT with LS2 Blue GM Performance Parts springs #12625033 ($55-60 new) and Comp Cams retainers #787-16 ($49-60) with stock push rods. I had one in a square body S10 with a 3.73 gear went quick enough they asked my to not come back to the strip without a cage. I currently have another in a 1978 El Camino junkyard wars beater drag car. I know what the internet says, but, with stock valve seals .580 clearance, the retainer that works with the beehive springs give you additional clearance to the guide. I am running the 1.6 self align rockers on an LT4 Hot Cam at .492 lift and that makes for .525 lift.

The one in my junkyard wars 'Hell Camino' is wearing a Volvo Penta Q-jet intake to have a stock appearance. Look, it works, we measured the set up on at least six heads, all around .575-.580 from the Comp Cams retainer to the OEM seal, not just the guide. The Hell Camino has genuine cracked heads with at least three types of block sealer and stop leak in it. I pulled the motor from a dead Suburban at an LKQ yard, honed the cylinders and plopped in the cam, I also cheated a little more by using steel shim head gaskets...

Sorry, I can't seem to move the pic from Google to photobucket I will take some more.

I'm good with .520 lift, not .580. Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought you or someone was implying that .580 lift was achieveable without cutting the guide.

Hey guys. Just got my wagon back on the road, and broke in the new 290hp 350 crate engine. Was doing a burnout today, and I accidentally hit 5600rpm momentarily. The max rpm depending where I look is either 5100 or 5400. My shift light is set to 5200 and it was only on for about 2 seconds but my tach recalls to 5600. Is there any chance I could have damaged anything?

How does this combo do so far? 83malibuwagon ?

The rev limit is to prevent the valves from floating which could cause a bent valves or broken valve springs. The rev limit that they suggested for your engine is low and you won't damage anything hitting the 5600 rpm. We ran the 602 GM crate at 6200 rpm on the circle track every weekend. The 602 crate is rated for 5500 rpm maximum by GM

I'd say it does pretty good, put about 750km on it in the past few days and I'm absolutely loving it. Enough power for now, but I know that feeling won't last. Have big plans for this car, this engine was mostly just to get it back on the road until I can afford the engine I'm saving for.
