I read this entire blog with a high degree of interest. Many valid points were made and as a long time GM fan, it got me thinking about the reported reasoning for GM to close these plants.
My household has four drivers ( one male, three females) . ALL of us drive a GMC/Chevy pickup and my wife drives a Chevy Trailblazer. We are not exactly farmers or laborers or whatnot, we just appreciate the style or utility of these types of vehicles. There is not a sedan or station wagon in the mix anywhere. I do have a Camaro, and several El Caminos and a GBody Cutlass (that I might just rob the drivetrain out of it and scrap the rest).
It all looks like GM has legitimate reasoning for dumping certain body styles ( AND, Ford has already began leading the way)
Everyone who said the GM's advertising is lacking is also Spot On! GM should take a page or two from Chrysler's advertising strategy ( I am not a fan of Chrysler cars and trucks, but their commercials are cool)
Kinda glad I updated my truck earlier this year to a Used 2013 Sierra. I, like many of you, cannot see any good reason to buy a new vehicle at current prices, only to lose half the value in a few short years!.
The only brand new vehicle I ever bought was a 2005 Harley Fatboy and shoot, a 2018 Fatboy has almost the same MSRP!
the quality is still there, my truck does do some truck stuff I use it to tow, a lot!
I hope this isn't the demise of GM, I hope they get their collective heads out of their collective asses and bring back the jobs!
