Hi all, I have 1988 tuned port 350 that's all stock. I want some idle in it for cruise nights. Im considering the GM ZZ4 cam. Has anyone used one? Curious about the sound and idle characteristics of it.

I had a ZZ4 engine once in my 84 Cutlass....I didn't notice much of a Idle difference. You may want the Hot Cam if you want a noticeable difference. That would also involve differnt springs. If you don't have screw in valve studs I wouldn't do it. Just my 2 cents.

I know I'm going to have to change the springs and rocker studs. Does the ZZ4 have any idle at all? How much idle does the hot cam have. Don't want it to sound like a race car, just a cam note in the exhaust. Would like to keep stock converter also, was told if I stay under 230* @ .050 should be ok with that.

you just want idle ? Then just about anything from the thumper line from Comp should fit the bill. If you want idle and more power then the hotcam is the ticket for your stock setup

Thanks guys. If I have any sense I will leave it alone at 22 mpg with air on and be happy. Why do we always want to ruin a good thing.

I have one in my 355 SBC with vortec heads. It's the same roller cam GM uses in their crate 604 performance engines. It works great with vortec heads since they don't like alot of lift and the idles sounds very close to ZZ4cutlaSS's video. With a roller cam you need to adjust the valve lash differently than a flat tappet cam

UOTE="ZZ4CutlaSS, post: 526408, member: 9810"]I have a 490hp 383 in my Cutlass....I have this cam it's not radical and has a 110 LSA so it still makes good vacume. http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=190&sb=2. Here is a video of it at Idle I made.

Sounds good, more cam than I need.

What is the part number on the cam you have?
