GRAND PRIX REPO PARTS

I have a GP and love it!! part of the challenge is not being able to just whip out the pocket book and order yourself up a mailorder hot rod. i've ended up in questionable places at questionable times trying to source nice original parts - again, part of the appeal.

that being said, yes, there are parts we desperately need. headlight bezels, tail light bezels, license plate chrome filler/reverse lights, etc etc etc. so you know what, just keep demanding parts from companies, and keep spending money on what IS available. that's the only way to demonstrate that demand (AND MORE IMPORTANTLY) money is out here in our wallets waiting to be spent.

bbarbulo and all,

I too like the "uniqueness" of the GP. Due to the fact that we can't just buy all the parts off-the-shelf, each of our "modded" cars is quite different and has appeal. During my modding process I've had to make my own parts more than once -- it's fun, but sure drags out your project. I agree, however, that it would be nice to have some stuff available. I've supported the outfits that carry GP replacement parts and I haven't been disappointed.

Happy New Year!
Andry

Im not so sure there would be enough demand I bought 3 GP parts cars last year, none of them in good shape to be able to put them back on the road. I ended up parting two out and sold one whole (a 78) since there was ZERO intrest in the parts it was sold for a derby car. The other two ( an 81 and 84) I stripped and still have most of the parts from both. Stuff like the grills and rear licence plate brackets/surrounds did sell fairly quick to other GP owners but parts like the dashes, power seat track, cross bar under the radiator, lower door panels went to owners of other G body cars. I had the fillers from both cars on here and Ebay for between 6 months and a year before they did sell. I wont be buying any more GPs in the future because they are so hard to sell the parts for.

I've been looking for the front fender marker lights and associated chrome trim in good shape. The parts I saw on ebay looked questionable (chrome pitted or cracking) and they were asking like $70 for the pair. I have not yet come across a decent set of reverse lights and license plate surround. But that's why I don't like to shop ebay used parts - someone elses "usable" condition parts may be junk in my eyes - not to mention the price. I would pay $50 per side for a quality reproduction marker light, and likely $100 for the license plate surround. But slim chance I'd pay that for questonable used parts I can only judge from low resolution ebay pics. I'd also pay $100 for the headlight bezel reproductions if they were made.

Good luck getting new repop parts for those price points except possibly the headlight bezels. I'll agree about the high prices on some parts on ebay but if you look past the cheap junk accessories there is some deals out there.

I scored a set of the cornering marker light trims from a member after he posted a pic of his day at the junkyard Thanks Patmckinney! Trim was FLAWLESS! I paid him for the parts and his time etc I had given up finding the trim in decent shape much less in the shape I received them in! 8) but it had taken a grip to find them.... Parts for GP's are real hard to find NOS much less in excellent shape and most what you find are "driver" quality... I agree it's a pain but it is what it is.. Sometimes people just don't want to pay for quality.. A member posted a want ad for a grille but haggled me on my asking price even even though I priced it WAY below the normal avenues! sorry I will just hang it on my wall and hold on to it. Grille was in better shape then what's on my car! :| I would think Grilles upper and lower, headlight trim, taillight chrome housings, rear back up light license plate trim. bumper moldings, door trim etc etc would help......but what do I know I paid big bucks IMO for a NOS grille!!! :blam:
