GRAND PRIX REPO PARTS

Thanks Brother Al. Your explanation is accurate, if unfortunate. It really was a shame, what happened to Pontiac during the '80s, and up until its demise after the 2009 model year.

The one good thing about that is when I went looking for a GP I found many cutlass and Monte Carlo SS that were totally ragged out from use and abuse and then I found my GP sitting in an old ladies yard un-used for years with 26,512 miles on in and only paid $400.00 for it. The SS cars were going for six times that at the time and were mostly dogs.

86 Grand prix: There are some great benefits to having a car that many do not recognize for what its potential is. (see my Cart before the Horse thread). As for the dead G-Body's, makes life that much easier to "Correct" the problems that the GP/LeMans/Grand Am have because of GM shortchanging them.

clean8485: Thank You. I'm sure that 80+ % of gearheads know that the G-Body started out as a slightly stretched A-Body, nevermind even guess which G-Body started it all. ('69 Grand Prix).

Thanks Brother Al. I have an '86 GP 2+2, so I understand what you're saying about the '80s Pontiacs, and not having much power. And I think that the '69 Grand Prix is a pretty cool car as well.

Still don't get it. What's bring supposed to mean? :?:
clean8485 the word bought should have been used, Instead of brong, bring, brung, using a small lap top and being lazy.
Gbarrie.

GBarrie, I really appreciate your efforts to help me understand what Thrasher meant in his statement, but I'm sorry, I still don't understand what his statement is supposed to mean. Is there a way that you could re-word his statement in a way that would be more understandable?
If I understand you correctly now, you're saying that Thrasher's statement should have read,
"No bro, you're bought about that."
I can understand someone being lazy on their computer, but I'm sorry, I still don't understand what that statement is supposed to MEAN. Is it a different dialect that I'm just not aware of? Thanks for your help.

ok, Many look to me as the responsible person to decide what to make for the cars. Me and Brian Weaver from Gbody parts is responsible for 95% of what has been brought to market. He and I both looked at what we could convince the MFG quickly to get most of the gbody platform off the ground to keep the crushing and parting of the vehicles to a minimum.

It all started with my 81 Cutlass. Since I had the car as a test guinnea pig with all the MFG at my disposal we started there as well as the Buick because Brian was quite faithful to the Regal. The monte has had quite a few parts available for a considerable amount of time.

Manufacturers, not even us the distributor holds us distributors responsible for moving the product. They take on a considerable cost to tool the sheet metal pieces. Lets take a door for example. This door takes 18 tools. The total cost on this door tooling wise is $245,000.00. I know there are only 15,000 registered Grand Prix on the road today. If we were to charge 750.00 per door we would have to put a set of doors on over half of this 15,000 registered vehicles. This is not reasonable.

Here is the kicker. THe MFG may be willing to lose money if we prove that the rest of the program is winning. They can take profits from other products and amortize against losing tools, but these tools are brand new. This is the reason many ask me when when when, I say not in the near future, lets get the program started first.

Does this suck, yes. DO I understand, yes. Was I there, yes. I am blessed with the ability to change it, but at a price..... My world reputation if this program does not deliver. I think it will because we have produced NOS quality or better product at a fair price, and the Gbody platform is a great car to restore for an affordable price.

I can say hang in there, we know you feel left out. Just remember, I am not a greedy person that thinks all about corporate greed. Could care less about the corp side of things honestly. Its been fun and great and rewarding seeing some of the cars saved and being a big part of it. It is definitely something I can say I helped with.

Oh, and for the person saying I am making these parts in China, no. Nothing is made in China. It is however made in Taiwan. And yes.....I have tried overwhelmingly to make parts in the USA.... Read some of my threads.
