Grandpa Car: 1979 Cutlass Thread

I'll be the last guy to throw stones about "do something different" since I did the most boring thing you can do and bought a SBC crate engine. I admire you guys that do something cool like this 425 swap or a 400 Pontiac or the SBB. When I bought my engine I was in a hurry, wanted new, and made a budget based decision. If I had known then that my car would still be sitting around now, I would have done differently.

As said, super sweet air cleaner but probably restrictive. Pulleys and brackets are a big bonus. The pistons are probably garbage anyway. Good score.

Wow! Great score! Only the 66/67 Toros had the drill mark signifying the 39 cam bank angle with the 921 lifters, right? Or am I mis-remembering that? Now I'm losing it.

Regardless, it's worth 100 any day of the week....I have one of those concave Toro intakes off a 70...I think...I was keeping it around in case I needed some clearance for any future reason.

Well damn - that is really sweet.

Cool, you can get an aggressive ramp flat tappet with the bigger lifters. That intake would probably allow something other than a 2" tall drop base with a BBO in a G body.

I got home, but not without incident (I'll give the details in the Prison Planet thread). Grabbed the cherry picker from my dad's shop and an engine stand from my shed. Got it all unloaded and stripped some more accessories off. Then I pulled the plugs out and sprayed some WD40 in each hole. You guys aren't going to believe this -- it turned over by hand with absolutely zero breakaway or rough spots. I turned it over about 10 revolutions and it was smooth as butter. It looks like I just might have a useable foundation after all. No idea why it felt stuck when I picked it up.

I was curious so I ran the carb number and it came back correct for '67 Toronado. Wouldn't have made a big huge difference but it is nice to know that it's correct just in case I decide to stay carbureted.
