hey whats up g bodiers lol i'm new to the forum i was just curious to know whats the easiest way to go about it..... i already ordered the h4 kits from ebay and the hid kit from a local dealer, my thing is i hear conflicting things about this conversion..

1). will i need a relay or is direct plug and play thru out, only running hid's on the low beams for now
2). is there any site or guide to running this install on my 86 monte ss

thanks in advance!!

I'd recommend a relay kit/setup, or make your own if you're confident you can wire the relays properly. They draw more current, and I melted part of the factory socket on my '81 from heating up... either from the bulb (doubtful) or the increased current requirement.

Besides that they're a plug & play deal from your stock 6054 globe. What does the setup look like since you're running these in conjunction with HIDs?

*edit*
Saw your other post, I didn't realize it was in a Monte... what I said still applies though, your best bet would probably be to buy a new pair of high beam sockets that haven't been exposed to the elements and wire them to a relay.

Trust me you will have to use a relay kit with the hids, unless you plan on changing out your wiring harnes for your lights. the relay lets the light have the voltage it requires without putting that load on your exsiting set-up.

ok so a relay is NEEDED man where could i find them and how much they may be

just but a 30 or 40 amp relay from the pars store, you'll need two one for the high beam and one for the low and use you +pos wire from each high and low as your trigger

my kit is a straight plug and play on the factory light housing no relay needed i had them on my denali for almost two years with out a glitch. but im new to the gbody family and i know when it comes to new mods on older cars sometimes it can be a b*tch! lol

i'm only running low beams for right now as i dont want to buy another ballast set right now so i'd have to wire up the low beams right??
