Came home last night cruising at 3000 picked up a sewing machine knock getting off the highway... knew right away top end :?

what I wasn't prepared for today was removing the suspect rocker to find it has shat it's needle bearings I recovered 50% in the head the others must be in the pan 🙁

In my honest opinion the needle bearings are small enough they came out of the pan as mush..

Should I drop the pan and check ??

anyone else has this happen before ?

Re: have an issue.

Buying an oil pan gasket and oil is cheaper than buying a crate motor man

I hear ya

from what I have read the LS guys are seeing tons or bearing failure and most LS engines have needle bearings floating around..

I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and after 10miles was it over or were they just floating around in the oil

Re: have an issue.

Its a coin toss really. I wiped the cam in my car last spring so I feel your pain. All depends on what your motor is worth to you. Personally I would flush what I could and run a strong earth magnet on the tip your drain plug and see what you catch over the next couple oil changes.

Re: have an issue.

The oil is sucked up by the pump the it goes through the filter. Even if the pieces are small enough to get through the screen on the pump they won't make it through the filter. They has a problem on the Vette LS7 engines and here is the Bulletin sent to GM dealers...

#PIP4156A: Possible Broken Rocker Arm On LS7 Engine - keywords cam camshaft DTC engine misfire miss noise push pushrod rattle SES tick valve Z06 - (Aug 29, 2007)

Subject: Possible Broken Rocker Arm On LS7 Engine

Models: 2007 Chevrolet Corvette Equipped with the 7.0L LS7 engine

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This PI was superseded to update Recommendation/Instructions. Please discard PIP4156.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
The customer concern may be an upper engine tick noise, or needle bearings found in the oil pan during an oil change.

Recommendation/Instructions:
If a dealer encounters an engine tick noise, or rocker arm needle bearings were found during an oil change, inspect all the rocker arms. If a damaged rocker arm is found, replace only the broken arm. Replacing the whole set of rocker arms is not necessary.

During the repair the technician may be trying to retrieve all of the needle bearings that were lost. Needle bearings may be found in cylinder head oil drains or oil pan. Clean the drains to retrieve the needle bearings, and replace only the damaged rocker arm.

Notie: The diameter of the needle bearing is larger then the oil pump pickup screen mesh. A needle bearing cannot be pulled into the oil pump.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

Re: have an issue.

I did 2 more oil changes nothing coming out small chance they blew right out the exhaust will put a magnet on the pan..

Put the roller back together with the bearings I have for now Ordered a new set of rollers

Small possibility after speaking with an engine builder that it was missing needles when first installed, Apparently it's a Miller roller and they are good quality

Looking at the comp cam notice they have a lock washer hmmmmm Mine don't have that next weekend I know what I'm doing woohooo Never done a gasser so time to get reading

How would the bearings get into the combustion chamber?

Never thought of that, suppose that's why it was a highly unlikely possibility lol

Re: have an issue.

Just waiting for the wife to get home, then I have an hour and a half before I have to work, Will check the old filter and pull off the new one and stick a magnet in there see if they come out

Re: have an issue *Update*

Installed the new comp cam roller..

Car ran great for about 3 miles (Mind you I installed it at work on a lunch break at night in the rain)

Left work thought the motor had blown up felt major knock work up this afternoon and tore into it, Rocker was loose  fixed that

car was still backfiring (Knock I heard and felt on the way home) :wtf:

lashed the valve this morning got it to the point the car would stall but ti was still backfiring :blam:

Walked away had a smoke went back and looked, I had 2 and 4 wires crossed

fixed that installed the valve covers and went for a ride, NO knock !!!! little ticking from the drivers side will adjust the rest of them this weekend for now I will drive the Impala...

On the lighter side I noticed I have a 12 bolt intake !! Means I can pick up a set of Dart Iron Eagle 180 heads with rollers for 600

tip of the day, try not to work on the car in the rain at night LOL
