It's a happy 4th to North America all around! As we in the U.S. celebrate our independence today from "mean old England", who are our allies today -- you can't have us back, though -- we also remember that our friends to the north and south of us can celebrate with us by having beer and grilled meat (or grilled veggies if you're bent that way) as well!!! The point being, the U.S. Continental Congress officially adopted the declaration of independence this day in 1776 to have the freedoms that we still enjoy today despite best efforts of politicians to fumble and screw that up, too. So enjoy the day with family and friends and help celebrate the 242nd birthday of the U.S.A!
FYI- Declaration wasn't actually signed until Aug 2, 1776, and I believe the first act of tearing down statues in the U.S. started July 9, 1776 when George Washington read the declaration in front of NYC City Hall (NY province drug their feet approving the Declaration). And inspired by this, a group went down to the Bowling Green in Manhattan and tore down a 2-ton statue of George III. Melted his dumb azz down to make bullets.
