Hard steering while turning left

The jeep was slammed into a curb by the last guy who owned it and the box was bad since then. Nothing else is bent and everything is greased. I agree with your diagnose but the op did say it happened all of a sudden and it got better as he drove. I think if the box was defective it would not get better...
 
The Front end was aligned two days after all the front end was done!
 
A good way to tell if the belt is slipping even though it is not squealing is to place a dab of white paint on the flat side of the power steering belt. Then use a timing light to watch it while the motor is running in park and someone else turns the wheel stop to stop. If it stutters, you are slipping.
 
Jacked the front of the car up today, turned steering from left to right a bunch of times no binding or anything, figured i'd adjust the box as well since the on center feel of the steering was a bit vague and numb, so I did that as well. Took it for a drive after, everything seems to be back to normal no hard lefts! Actually seems a lot tighter on center compared to before thanks to the adjustment.
