Hardtops have small metal studs inside the rear glass area that hold the clips for the non-vinyl window trim. My conversion project does not have these studs because I am starting with a vinyl car and converting to a hardtop. Those that have done this conversion, what are you using to hold the rear window trim clips in place when there are no small metal studs existing?

They sell a screw in stud to do this Au-ve-co Products part# 9877 there might be other parts numbers that will work for this also.
The online catalog shows these come in boxes of 100
Prices vary throughout the internet and I would verify quantity per box before ordering if decide to go this route.

That is the easiest way. There are also weld in studs. When I did my conversion I had my local window shop put the studs in when I had my windshield and replacement rear glass installed. The guy just pre-drilled the spots he wanted the clips to go at. He also used a metal trim tab instead of the plastic ones. He told me that most aftermarket plastic clips are not the exact right size and don't hold the trim as well as the original OEM and he only uses the metal clips now after having issues with the plastic ones. Also make sure you get the correct depth in the frame for the studs.

Do you know where I might find those metal tabs you were talking about? I have the plastic ones from gbodyparts, but if the metal ones are better I'll splurge on those.

I wish I could weld the studs in my wagon side glass. But I will hunt down those screw since they are the next best thing.
