the yellow wire wire should be hooked up to constant 12v the red wire needs to be 12v switched. and it looks like you have the yellow going to the dimmer wiring....

Instructions say that the yellow plug is the constant.

if you have a multi-meter or a volt meter check it out

Ok, I tried putting both the red and yellow wires to the red wire on the adapter and the head unit came on, tried it on the adapter's yellow wire and I got nothing.

The car's plug that is orange has two wires that is orange and brown, it plugs into the adapter's yellow which had no power.

humor me for a few minutes and turn your headlights on and put the dimmer switch all the way up..

I'd put a fuse in the yellow wire and find a good constant 12 v source. Mine runs to the battery. If it still doesn't work then I'd put a fuse in the red wire and find a good 12 v ignition on source.

I might try that. I just don't understand why the original radio would power on but the new one won't.

just like TODoubleD said, the old radio was powered by the switched 12v. The new radio is powered by the yellow. The switched 12v just turns it on and off.
