I have a headlight out on one side of my 85 monte ss. So I was just wondering what everyone recommends me doing. Do I just get the h4 conversion which is what I am leaning towards or do I go for something else? What other options do I have? Thanks guys!

I have the H4 conversion with hella lenses with the hi/lo bixenon 6000k bulbs and a clear lense with the xenon 6000k for the hi. I have used PIAA halogen bulbs in the past but they don't even come close to an HID set up.

Go with the HID set up, i got the ones with the halo, plenty bright and once you mount the ballast (go with the slim) its alot easier to to wire up from the exsisting wires, if you go with the h-4 set up you will need to run a relay, with the h-4's i had they were bright as long as the highbeams were on.

I went with H4's - much better/brighter than stock and easy bulb replacement now as well. My main motivation for the swap was actually easy bulb replacement - I did the upgrade when one of my stockers finally died just like you.

This pic was before the harness upgrade, so they are even brighter now:

The housings look much nicer with the lights off as well:

...I made one mistake though - the bulbs I got had a faint blue tint to them. I didn't think it would be noticable... and it isn't unless you see the car head on:

Summit sells the wire upgrade kits which makes it plug and play. Some get away with factory wiring, but I wouldn't push it on 20+ year old wires. On mine the circuit breaker in the headlight switch started tripping with the brights on. The following site shows the difference in the pinouts, but it seems to be down at the moment:

HID's are nice, but pricey 🙂

85_SS, i like your h-4 set up, looks good. I must have had a bad wiring digram from the company, mine didn't look no were near as bright, but they were conciderly betty than the stockers

i used what was in the kit, it showed me using a relay, i guess not to trip the C/B, i couldn't find a diagram so the HID won it, but the nice thing is that i can alway go back to h4 since the housing is the same.

I doubt you will ever go back to the halogen or plasma after using the HID lights....you might want to take a look at Hella lenses instead of those clear lenses where the chrome starts to deteriorate after a few months and the Hella light has a nice patterned beam unlike the clear lenses.
