it is possible that the outer ring of the balancer has shifted. you may have to manually set the engine to TDC and remark. smoke out the intake means that you're very advanced, usually this only happens with the distributor 180* off.
really how does that happen.

Are you using a timing light? What year is the car and engine? Is the timing chain good? Is the distributor good? Is the firing order correct? Are the sparkplugs good (not fouled out) Is the fuel good?
yes i am,1979,the previous owner never said anything about it and yes correct order and plugs are good so is the fuel

start looking at the timing chain. Set the balancer to TDC and see where it lines up on the distributor cap.

If the dist. was off 180 it wouldn not start at all. I bet yer vacume advance is stuck inside the dist. Seen this happen alot. Remove the vac hose from the carb take off the dist cap and rotor button. Apply vacume to the advance pod and watch to see if its movin back and forth. Make sure its goin all the way back. Also make sure the weights arn't stuck. So many people have change cam and chain and still had the same result.

I've had it 180 degrees off and it's started. I even driven down the road but it was really slugish. I seen that it could be 180 off and adjusted my dizzy to the correct timing and it worked. You need to manually set your timing by pulling your #1 plug and crank your motor till you feel air pushing out. Then I used a plastic straw and slowly cranked the motor till the straw came all the way to the top. After that I marked my dizzy to show where #1 fires and set the dizzy to that. Normally it fires at #1 while it's pointed towards the #1 piston. If not then you just barely lift your dizzy and turn it till it is right and sets in place. Oh and I think you need to unplug your vacuum when you do your timing with a timing light. Hope this helps.

thanks for all the input on this i jus messed with it a lil bit not too much more to do with the choke and went on a "test drive" lol it was awesome best performance ive had yet
