Help! Q-Jet gas leak

Mark is right about the "float/needle/seat is all that keeps the fuel from flooding"...I might suspect the float may be cracked but I think the carb was running ok before you cleaned it.

Yeah it worked ok before i cleaned it. I'll take the top off and look it over again. I did not check the float level because i don't see how it would've changed, but i'll have to do that when I take it apart again. I have a chevy 350 now. An olds is going back in it eventually so mI don't want to spend a lot on this motor. I have an almost new q-jet from the olds 350 I bought for the car but it doesnt have a the port in the back of the baseplate for the brake booster. The chevy uses the manifold port for the trans vac modulator. Maybe I can get a fitting that i can hook up the trans and brake booster to the manifold and use the BOP carb if I cant figure the chevy carb out.

I put in a new needle and seat and checked the float height and still no change and the gasket for the top part of the carb is shot. I put on a BOP carb and that runs, but I dont see where the kickdown would hook up or a spot for a stud to be installed. The carb came off an olds 350 and it was backed by a TH350 before. I bought the engine already pulled from the car and didn't see how it was hooked up before. Idle is high and the idle stop screw is backed off all the way. I'm getting frustrated.

I just got another quadrajet from a guy i work with. This ones a Carter made Q-jet. I took it apart and cleaned it up, put it together and it works great. I didn't put any new parts in it. The gasket on the other carb was shot from taking it apart so much. Now the fuel line fitting leaks! I'm gonna get a barbed fitting from the quadrajetparts.com site

And a rubber hose? Bad idea. Just fix the fitting. Did you tighten the big nut with the filter inside before tightening the fuel line fitting? It has a wee gasket behind it you know, and that will leak.

Why Is a rubber line bad? Thats what it had when i bought it. The big nut isnt leaking and i have a gasket for that. Is there a gasket for the actual fuel line. I have a metal line off another chevy that had a later Q-jet and that one had a long filter and the carb i'm running now has a short filter and the metal line doesn't reach. I have a terrible time bending 3/8 line. Is there a place I can buy a cheap prebent pump to carb line? I have metal line but I always kink it. Is it a double flare for fuel, like most brake lines are?

Rubber fuel line is always an accident waiting to happen. Why risk a fuel fire for no reason? Why not just swap the fuel inlet nuts around? They all fit the same. Pre-bent fuel line is available, but it's not hard to bend one up with a proper bending tool. Classic Industries offers this and others.

Ok so I have the old steel pump to carb stock fuel line from my old chevy 350. It does fit but it wont seal on the pump. The other line leaked at the carb. After repeatedly taking the line on and off, it leaked every time. Then I said F it I will just put the old line back on and that one leaks. I put the all steel one back on and it leaked again. The pump is 2 months old and this is the only time I have taken the line on and off. I gave up and searched online and found a corvette forum where a guy had a similar issue but with stainless steel. Some one said to loosen and tighten the fitting 1/4 turn at a time to get it to seal, because stainless is so hard. My line is not SS tho. Since they both leaked and didnt before I dont want to buy new carb/pump line and have it still leak. Am I overlooking something? Thanks for the help

I have tightened/loosened fuel lines endlessly without issue so something is wrong. How does the face of the flare look? Any cracks? How about the inside of the nut where it screws in? Both faces must be smooth and free of defects. Any rust? Pits? Is the flare straight, not c*ck-eyed? I have a fuel line on a Pontiac 400 that is so old and worn, there's no flats left on the carb end, so I use a Vice-Grip to tighten/loosen it and it doesn't leak.
