Well I saw the thread about high mileage engines , how about all the high mileage Gbodys out there that have had
multiple motors tossed in over those mega miles....
You know who you are... now's the time to tell your side of the story....
I'm sure there are some 6+ motor cars in this group.
These cars live a long life and then some. Long live the G body!!!!
258,000 miles, Two engines, Two transmissions. Rear ended in 1988, Ft clip replaced after head on crash in 2007. Repainted 3 times,Interior changed twice.
Still going strong. 8)
My Gp is on it's 3rd engine, 8th transmission , 3rd rearend and if i'm right it has less then 100k according to the odometer..... don't know its exact milage but body was still nice and tight when it WAS running.. The trans should have velcro straps seeing as it has had a grip that i know of...
Hey, sharp red EC. I think that year body style is the best... Malibu too. I got rear ended in my Frontier truck when this
guy was following me on a four lane in town. I stopped for the light and watched as he approached the rear of my truck. In the mirror I could see this big shaggy dog run across the seat and hang his head out the drivers window. Then ! you guessed it.
Squealing tires and BANG. The jeep Cherokee impaled it's radiator on my trailer hitch and killed by bumper. Nothing else.
Clearly the guy had been drinking, begging me not to call the law. We settled for $500...
8 transmissions ????? Try not catching reverse at over 80 mph. That may be your problem
Mine has seen 3 engines(Im building the 4th now), 3 transmissions, and 2 rear ends. Thats just since I got it. When bought it the entire driveline was swapped so who truly knows.
I was very surprised when I went to look at my 87. For a florida car it has 0% rust. The underside of the car is clean
and in really good shape. Yes the motor and transmission was shot. and it had sat for a good many years covered in a driveway and then in an enclosed garage until I found it.
I think these cars were built to be re-built over and over. you are part of why people do just that.

No, my car has had so many because a myriad of issues:
1.th200c "stock"
2. th350 "swapped in by first owner" didn't shift right though
3. th350 "swapped in by my buddy in an attempt to fix the issue" didn't work!! bad kickdown cable was the culprit for both!
4. th700r4 " from a 87 Astro took out cuz didn't want to cut the driveshaft and mod crossmember
5. th2004r " from an olds 88 worked good for a while"
6. th2004r from a 87 SS "performance" trans bought two different ones when one didn't shift right installed both though!
7. 4l65e " bought with performance rebuild for my ls swap installed for mock up and removed
8. T56 " Bought to go the route i really wanted, found at junkyard and was real good priced!!
9 Future..... Built T56 from Tick performance when it starts giving me issues hope not for a while.
And thats the saga of the transmissions for my GP
i dont know if mine is considered high milage. As far as i know my 86 cutty has 156,*** miles with the original motor rebuilt at 80K miles and the transmission was repaired / upgraded about 10k or less ago back in 2003. The 7.5 rear end hasen't been touched but is going to be replaced with a 8.5 posi unit
