so although i have a cadillac 472 that i was planning on rebuilding, i was thinking an olds motor would be more appropriate

i own a 1985 Olds 442, it currently has a 355 chevy motor under the hood, the original 307 was blown up and sent to the bone yard by the previous owner

my buddy has a freshly machined 1970 olds big block that has been bored .060 over, JE pistons, edelbrock heads, edelbrock intake, and a lumpy cam. its 468 cubic inches and should make 500-525 horses once assembled

i was thinking that the olds big block would be more appropriate for my 442

any thoughts/opinions ??

455 is the best bet, just get the appropriate frame and engine mounts. I swapped the 260 out of my 79 cutlass and used Hooker Headers. Still wish I had the car

What is he asking for the Olds? I would definatley go with the Olds if the price is reasonable. Considering you were about to build a Cadillac of all things it should save you some money getting the complete Olds engine.

he wants about $3000. Everything is all there it just needs to be assembled.

I'm currently running a olds 455 and I love it. You can not beat the awesome torque it provides down low and there real dependable from what I've seen. The olds motor would make your car complete in my opinion, but I am a fan of keeping an olds motor in a Oldsmobile. 3000 is not a bad price. I would just check and make sure he has the receipts for what was bought and what was done to the motor.

That sounds like a decent price. I have more than that in my 455 and I am at 480 horsepower .I am also a big fan of keeping an olds engine in an Oldsmobile. The 455 if assembled correctly and quality parts are used will give you years of no headaches and fun. Best of luck
