hockey puck body mounts

Except you don't install a puck or bushing vertically like the puck in that press. Plus you will need a large washer to spread the load over the whole face, and install a metal sleeve in the bolt hole. Also the puck in that video doesn't have a hole drilled in it either. I have seen pucks crack in half and fall off. But hey, if you are so cheap that you don't value life at all, go for it.

It is called redneck engineering for a reason.

Young hot rodders use what they can while they can as it becomes available. I can only imagine hockey pucks appealing to a young Canadian working on a rusty Cutlass - most likely a v6 since he obviously wouldn't be able to trust a fast one w/ body bushings that are used hockey pucks... I doubt this hockey puck thing works except for cars that rusted their body bushing all the way out and have fractionally extra. Someone w/ body bushings that bad would probably do good to use hockey pucks temporarily, since they could probably get them for free down at the local hockey spot in cities like ottawa mtl calgary etc... but to go out and buy pucks to do this w/ seems silly. Definitely not worth doing except for a broke Canadian. A redneck would just probably not fix a body bushing at all wtf. Either way I don't think it's that serious as clone tie made it sound. 'Dont value life at all' ? C'mon. Some regals rolled out with as few as 4-5 body bushings factory from Flint... I don't see people coming up dead over some body bushings going bad. I have seen g-bodies with both rear shock mounts not even attached out back anymore w/ the shocks leaning against the inner rear of the frame rail and tire rubbing and the person was still driving it like that. Not saying that it's responsible or what I would do just saying.

The frame and body comply cover the puck so this is not a proper representation and also what was the pressure. You said hockey pucks deform easier than a body mount do where is the test for that?

Really guys? Do we need two pages and over a dozen comments to beat this to death?
Don't be so cheap, go out and buy the correct mounts, and be done with it. It's as easy as that.

Spend the money once and be done with it. With the amount of work it takes to replace/repair body mounts I would think you would want to put new ones in and forget about them.

Exactly.
Threads like this bother me. I hate to go off on a rant here, but we all get upset when we don't get respect from other car guys, (thread "people talking smack about your G bodies") yet some of us aren't doing anything to change that perception. If we continue to cut corners and build 2nd rate cars, we're never going to get out from under that perception. Guys, if we want the respect of others its up to us to do something about it. I'm all about saving $$$ as much as the next guy, but let's be smart about it. Spend the money especially when safety is even remotely a concern. Leave the hockey pucks to the hockey players and do the job right the first time. If GM wanted hockey pucks in their cars, they would've put them in there in the first place.

From the posts ive seen so far weve just been discussing the viability of something . But now its turning into a "i said no, you better listen or your grounded" type of conversation now if the pressure could be given for the test that split the puck could be given, or it could be repeated with plates that completely cover the puck so that it would evenly disperse the weight instead of a partially compressed puck that split in the portion between the compression zone and the decompression zone

Perhaps it was a little hyperbore, but unsafe practices like using pucks for body mounts not only endangers the driver and passengers of the car but others as well. We condemn drunk drivers who crash, illegal street racing, and even using cell phones while driving, yet it is somehow ok to build or repair cars using unsafe practices? Driving entails many responsibilities such as keeping your car in a safe condition. Cutting corners and making or leaving your car unsafe is just as bad as DUI, you are risking your own life as well as the lives of others around you. This is why people who cut corners like this don't value life. This doesn't just make us G body owners look bad, it makes the whole car hobby look bad. Lawmakers would use stuff like this as a strawman excuse to create even more strict laws saying what we can do. Take some pride in your workmanship.

Then there are the people who defend and condone such practices, they should not even pop a hood yet alone give advise. Threads like this that promote bad advise boils my blood, it makes us all look stupid as well as getting people hurt or worse. Cars are like firearms, safety first.
