I have an 81 caballero with an automatic transmission I think it is low on fluid how do I check and add some if it is low?

Says it right on the transmission dipstick. Check when hot. Check when the engine is at operating temp with the engine RUNNING in PARK. Add half a quart (one pint) at a time. If you over fill, it will damage it. And the only way to get it out is to drop the pan.

How much fluid should I need if I drain the pan and change the filter?
Start with putting in 4 quarts. Start the engine and let it idle in park and check the level. Shift through the gears (foot on brake) and recheck. Don't overfill.
