So you take Exxon and Mobil out, now you have fewer suppliers. What do you think their next move is??
You have to remember that oil companies are not just supplying fuel with oil. A large amount of the oil we use every day will never be burned in our tanks or lubricate our cars, it will go into manufacturing. Plastics, paints, solvents, etc. all use oil. As I look around my room right now, there is oil in every single thing I see. From my laptop to my TV to my furniture, clothing and even the carpet on the floor, oil was somehow used in it's production. It is a MUCH larger issue than just fuel. Plastics are used in virtually everything you buy. Food is sealed in plastic to keep it fresh, or make it easier to sell. Houses have asphalt shingles and tar paper in their roofs, etc. To truly end our oil dependency, we need to completely restructure our society and few people are really willing to do that. I know I am not ready to give up the oil in my life.
You are very correct, plus it's exasperated by a huge population in China and India that are just entering the hydrocarbon-dependent age.
I read somewhere it really doesn't matter much what type of vehicles we Americans drive, it's just a drop in the bucket (or oil barrel) on a global scale.
We can make personal decisions that some of us feel are the correct moral decision....such as don't use plastic grocery sacks or paper sacks, bring your own containers (cloth bags or cardboard boxes).
Oh, and buy shares of XLE...a mix of big oil companies shares. Switch from being a victim to being a capitalist.

While I have nothing intelligent to add to this conversation I will say that anytime I see something that tells me:
send this to 10 of your friends...and they will send to 10 of their friends...who will send to 10.....bla bla bla...and eventually you reach a billion people..
I must be an unfriendly person. I only have 10 friends to send this to. They probably only have 10 friends, at least 3 of which are me and some of my friends....so really, you only end up reaching a few dozen unique people at most. That is why they call it a "circle of friends" - you are all your own friends.

I do not care about gas prices. They are part of life. I personally can not change them. Besides, I run 116 in the GN so I do not care about common gasoline for mortals.....
