Generally it's best to stay with the stock 195 Tstant, 160 is way too cold.

Changed over from a 160 to 180 T stat since installing aluminum radiator . The 160 didn’t allow warm enough engine operating temperature . If yours is a race car then keep it but for the street definitely go with the 180

180 is good enough to boil the water out of the oil. 160 is a little cool for me. I ran one in my race car because I didn’t need it getting hot.

I can tell you that a 160 thermostat with piss poor electric fans that don't come on until 200 will not work.

I still run a copper/brass radiator(3core)... it had a 160F thermostat when i bought the car, engine ran too cold for my liking, so out it went and a 180F thermostat put in its place.

A thermostat's job is to regulate flow to the radiator. If anytime your temperature is above your thermostat temp. It means your thermostat is WIDE open and is no longer regulating.

I have a 180 in my Monte with a 565 Big Block and in my Regal with a 355 SBC and both are running big Griffen radiators with dual Intrepid fans, no cooling issues at all with either car with the 180 thermostat.
