Well, in a G Body almost any american made trans can be made to fit, and there is damn near a kit for everything in these cars, BUT if yours still has the 200r4, keep it. The ones from the GN and H/O cars are the most desirable factory 200r4s. 4 speed auto. But, if yours just has 1st, 2nd, and D, just toss in any old BOP TH350. Three speed, no OD. It's gotta have a Buick, Olds, Pontiac (BOP) bolt pattern though. And almost all RWD auto transmissions had a TOrque converter lockup feature to increase MPG since the early 80s (started in 78 or maybe even 79).

**********EDIT*************
Just to reiterate, since you say your car has lightning shifters, it should already have a TH200r4. It's like th 200 metric, but stronger and has that 4th gear which is OD. And then reverse of course. These are really good transmissions. If yours is having issues, get it rebuilt by a reputable place, or spring about 2,000 if you got it for a custom one from TCI or similar.
