I finally got a 4 speed malibu

This is where it comes through on my 79 malibu .

That is the back up light harness. If you look at the picture there is a smaller grommet about 3/4" in diameter. That is where the wire for the tach comes through (although it looks like the wire is missing in the picture). The huge grommet with the capillary tube and wire is not factory.

After a second look you are correct , and i did cut wire to run a new one

I had to persuade a shifter to fit with my old Malibu...

Yes those were from a Canadian Monte KPH speedo

Its from a M80 car. Actually it's a repop that was made by a guy about 15 years ago. He had an original, had a mold made and was having them reproduced. He ended up destroying the mold IIRC. I bought one of the last ones made.

I have a brand new one sitting in my garage for about 20 years

I believe that dimple to the left if back up lamp harness is for tachometer,under dash there is a split in firewall pad for wiring

Ahh , thats a nice clean install on them , looks good ! The gray and black really works with those dash,s !
