I think I'm done with Sears/Craftsman.

I now dislike going to a Sears just like WalMart - Crappy Products, lousy atmosphere, no help to be found & if you do find someone, they don't know a Wrench from a LawnMower!

T.C.

I haven't been in the local Sears in over two years.
I've had a couple of their 3/8 drive ratchets. The first was given to me back in 1989 and it started to stick about six years ago.
I took it back and was told they no longer made that style and I could exchange it for the new style or get nothing. I didn't want the new style because the action sucked and it felt like sh*t in my hand, but reluctantly I did.
About the third time I used it the stupid thing started doing the same thing so I took it back. They put new gears in it while I waited.
What I got back was truly a POS. I had to take it apart and grease it to make it smoother. I've never been happy with it and their newer ones are even worse.
I'm done with their ratchets that's for sure.

Shortly after I purchased a Proto ratchet and it's been great so far. The Craftsman is now a back up THAT I AVOID. I'm displeased every time that I have to use it.
I have three 3/8 drive ratchets. My go to is the Proto, after that it's the SnapOn, then my old Champion Spark Plug ratchet.
None of them have ever given me any problems.

I still have the other Craftsman 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch drive ratchets that were given to me in 89 as a large kit, they still work good.
If one of them starts messing up on me I'll exchange it for crap and then it will be up for sale along with the POS 3/8 drive one.

If I need pliers or something like that I'll purchase Xcelite, Klien or Xuron.

Craftsman used to be the GO TO brand when you wanted something quality but couldn't afford SnapOn or Mack.
Not now, no way!

Will not argue issues with quality lately. We Americans have brought this on ourselves. Our society no longer demands USA made or Quality made for that matter.

My how quickly people forget.

We consumers have to take a big part of the blame for going after the cheap chinese products that caused alot of manufacturers who made products made in US to find cheaper production facilities..It's up to us to do what we can to turn the tide around

Reagan said a mouthful and his plan is in action. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcTPwHY-LpY

The first sign that a US company has sent their production overseas isn't the lower price, it's the made in China printing on the box.
Too many US companies have sent production overseas and NOT LOWERED their prices for me to buy into what you're saying.
The fat cats are lining their pockets every chance they get.

X2! We were suckered in with lower prices until the good US made stuff disappeared. Now we are left with imported crap sold at the old made in US price!?! We are truly idiots but I despise the slimy American business traitors that pulled this sh*t off. They are pocketing the difference at our expense.

Personally i cant afford most of these tools ,but about two years ago i got a 301 piece pitsburgh pro set and they have held up pretty well ,and i treat them like crap most of the time, hauling them through the parts yards around here even after getting caught in the rain with them in the back of my truck ,using pipes that had no business being on the end of them as breaker bars in the junk yard ,and theyre still goin minus a few misplaced screw drivers

Coincidentally, I just used the ratchet that started this thread yesterday and was reminded of the situation. It's still a POS.

crapsman stuff has gone down hill in the last decade or two. I just got a good deal on a jack, creeper, jack stand combo. Wouldn't you know it the jack was unable to maintain pressure and slowly drop the car back onto the floor. Here is the best part, I got it replaced, but the manager of the store goes and slaps a clearance sticker on it and tells a cashier to roll the defective item back onto the sales floor
