I think my girlfriend was lied to......

She called me a few minutes ago and said the "expert" at the oil change station said her car needed synthetic oil because it is a turbo and runs hotter.......
Admittedly i don't know much about turbo engines, but her brother both think he's blowing smoke. I was always under the impression a turbo is designed to suck hot air OUT of the engine. Does anyone know something i don't?

I like synthetic oil better but turbo's have been out there before synthetic oil showed up on the shelves.

thats what i thought. Her dad, (the mechanical engineer) told her it made sense. So i need more of these comments to keep her from blowing another 30 dollars an oil change.

It wouldn't hurt to run the synthetic , but I have to agree about the upselling. I worked in a dealership for years and I would bet he gets a spiff for pushing the spendy oil.

if you use the proper filter and not one from "those" places the synthetic oil change works out cheaper since you can run it longer between oil changes...

synthetic oil allows the engine to spin easier so less energy is needed so less heat build up....but that does not mean conventional oil will not do the job...those "experts" get commission on upselling so they are not the ones to trust.

Well, i guess i should state for the record i dont have anything against synthetic oil, but this guy got her scared her car was gonna seize up or something. :x I do take that personal.

that's how they sell and they prey on people who they think they can take advantage of...personally I would not trust any of their products that come out of a drum...just cause they say it's synthetic who know what quality it is...
