im buying a 350 block 4 bolt main very shortly. my buddy said he will run his dads corvette against me when i have the new motor in. 2006 z51. he says it pushes 415-420 hp. idk if thats at wheels or block. about how much hp do i have to be pushing to beat this car. i know he had the weight advantage and the 6 spd auto transmission helps a hell of a lot for acceleration. ive currently got a metric 3 spd auto that needs replaced. and i was thinking 3.73 gears in the rear. give me some input. i just wanna see the look on his face when i beat him lol

how much money do you have.

you could always stroke it... but with a 355

you have a chance if you lighten up the car, go with wicked cam, around 11:1 compression, high flow aluminum heads, a high stall speed, 28 inch tires and probably abotu a 4.56 gear.

You might not end up with a streetable car.

What does the vette run? im not too familiar with there times

i wanna keep it streetable. i get a lot of parts discounted from our suppliers. the only mod he has done is a axle back corsa exhuast. with headers an intake and a tune they push about 380 rwhp and i think sub 13 times??? and ive got a motor builder in my back pocket for advice but im gonna be putting it together. he builds $50,000 race motors all day everyday. so ill have it run on his dyno when im done. ill prob have him port and flow a set of heads too. alum heads might not be in the picture just yet. a set of 2.02 iron heads will prob get put on at first.

Motortrend has them running 12.7 in the 1/4. Build a 383 instead. If your rebuilding from scratch they aren't much more to build anyway. Your gonna need around 435-450hp to match his rear wheel and with his set up he will still smoke you. So your gonna need more along the lines of 500hp. Getting that with a streetable 355 is a pretty tall order. Unless of course there were power adders. You don't need aluminum heads but I wouldn't use a stock GM casting either. I honestly don't even think you could reach 500hp with ported castings. Maybe you can I am unsure but it would probably be more cost effective to buy an aftermarket set of heads than spend a bunch on race porting heads.

chris (the engine builder) might be able to hook me up with some used alum. heads for cheap. and im gonna need to build the entire drive train to be able to stomp the pedal down on a hammer more than a few times without something breaking. now the 383 is a 350 bored 0.030 over with a 400 crank correct? and the 377 is a destroked 400.

Absolutely gp,

Rear end set up to hook, weight reduction, solid drive line. Bunch more money haha. Or hope you don't fry the tires and he can't drive

Jbracing,

In a nut shell yea. You can buy stroker kits fairly cheap. If you add up the cost of buying pistons, reconditioning rods, turning the crank, etc your almost to the point of buying a quality stroker kit. So you might as well spend the extra and get a bunch more cubes right off the bat.

Yeah Chriso is right...your looking for a tall order out of a 355 that's for sure..It can be done, but the better route would be to go with a stroker kit to make it a 383...Check out the stroker kit from Powerhouse :https://shop.enginekits.com/osb/itemdetails.cfm?ID=2117 ..Yoe will need to do some suspension work yourself also...Ie, drag shocks, trick springs and a decent set of gears and of course a good transmission with a 2800-3200 converter.....good luck 8)

A base line 2006 Corvette will run like a mid 12 second quarter mile :| You will need to build your car/motor to run a low 12 second quarter mile. I would say 400-500 horsepower and a comprabable transmission build to handle it. You will also need to upgrade your rear suspension and possibly some other chassis work  Good luck

A 400ci crank can be used to build a 383 STROKER small block. But IMO, it is worth it to just buy an aftermarket steel stroker crank.

377 - 383 ... can be achieved by stroking a 350ci block or destroking a 400ci block

quit posting wHile I'm typing
