i have considered going the boosted route. a turbo 383 would be sick as all hell. if i put all my money to it i could build a 383 by june. but im thinking it will come closer to july or august. stock car isnt cheap and sponsors dont cover everything. ive got a beater neon so as long as nothing happens to it i can let the gp sit while the engine is being built.. im not running it this winter anyway

Sounds like a bunch of time, money and trouble just to beat your friend in his daddy's vette...just sayin.

I can probably beat him in my GP...after I mention to his dad what his son is up to in his vette..

:lightsab: its a never ending battle, once you dump all of this money do beat his dads car, then what?? i say you build a car/engine you want and are happy with and call it a day. no point in trying to keep up with the Jones', especially when this particular Jones is using barrowed wheels.

a pointless d!ck mesuring contest, however, good luck on the build

its all about torque and being able to get it to hook

ive seen stock rear Abody rear suspension hook very well with just an airbag on the pass rear.

you have to also stiffen up the body g bodys do twist with horsepower ratings above 500 hp 6 point should do it

tires will be another issue im running 275 50 15 on mine and have 1/2 inch clearance between the inside tire and the wheelwell and thats with a 70 abody 10 bolt 8.5
if i kept the stock 8.5 id be rubbing the abody rear is 1 7/8 wider than a g body
also i have installed polyurathane bushings through out. better pinion deflection from stock

as far as transmissions go id go 5 or 6 spd 700r4's and 4l60's can only handle about 425 - 450 hp id rather be changing clutches over having a auto rebuilt all the time

theres many ways you can get a gbody to beat a vette but its all about how much you want to dump in it for bragging rights

id have to agree with blake

I'm building a ~420 HP motor right now actually. Just the engine swap will end up hitting me a little over $2000. Then another $600 to get the transmission (700r4 or Turbo 350) i want. I will easily make over 400HP. I'm using a 4-bolt main block, 2piece rear main. Was factory when i got it..just got vatted, magnafluxed and decked last week..they're boring it 30 over and honing it this week and i should have it back next friday..got a set of Summit vortec heads and i'm planning on using a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and Holley 750cfm carb. I'm looking at about 420 (no pun intended) horses.

If you're not into racing then don't put your doe into this kinda sh*t UNLESS IT'S TO GET GIRLS! **** racing some hard legs...

Although I do plan on hitting the drags come fall time!

his dad doesnt really care about him screwing around in his vette lol. we were gonna do it at the drag strip anyway. but me and this kid grew up together. and not only do i want to beat his vette i want a very fast yet affordable streetable car that i can go tear up the drag strip with. i already have the platform of the gbody now i need the powerplant. ill never beat his dads camaro though...1976 camaro rs pushing 700 hp off a 355 with a blower. that car is wicked but hardly ever leaves town due to cops getting on his *ss.

ive got an 87 gp with a 4.3 calling the engine bay home at the moment ner0
