Cool thread! Great getting to know y'all a little better...
Well evil is ageless, but the gov't says I'm 47, so does my mom. At any rate, been into G's since about 94, Cutlaii in particular, but oddly my addiction came about just by seeing one somewhat dolled up at a gas station. I can't remember the details exactly but I know it had t-tops and was hella shiny. I just fell in love (with the car).....I had never been into cars at all prior, no family was either....it just happened-so did losing my virginity, but I digress.
In 96 I bought the cheapest one I could find (81 Calais with T's) for $1500. She's long gone (so is the wife I sold the car to buy wedding rings for) but there has been little time since that I haven't had a Cutlass. Life has dealt me lots of changes, but I just can't seem to be without one in my possession...running or not...like my version of a security blanket I guess. Last vestige of my life as a single guy before life dumped the sh*t ton of responsibility onto me (aka "the good old days") 😉

30. Growing up my dad was a mechanic. We never had much for cars. Bounced from car to car. What ever he could pick up and fix for 50 bucks. A lot of AMC Eagles and a couple SX4s. Then he came home with a Burgandy Regal 83. Nothing special. But to me it was the sportiest car. He threw his racing mags on it 2 doors and dual exhaust. I found myself always wanting that car. As time went on that one died off and we had a 78 chevy k10. With a 350 and 305 heads on it. A few years past and my folks saved up some money to pick up something a little different. The choices came down to an 86 IROC and an 86 442. My dad talked the dealer selling the car down 3k and bought it at a steal. The car was a head turner, and my uncle said we had picked up something worth showing. My parents tested the waters and soon it became a summer car. The motor has been rebuilt and currently has about 126k original miles. The transmission was rebuilt as well. The car was Shown until 09. After that It was stored and would be ran every few months. During which I joined the service and separated. The car was given to me as a reward for doing something with my life. It was supposed to be go to college but the service came first. In June I plan on registering it for the first time since it went into hiding. It is bone stock 307. And I intend on keeping it that way. It has been in zero reported accidents but 2 that we know of. The first one was at the dealership we bought it at. They said it was hit by a plow and they fixed it. And the second was my mom swipe the side of the garage when she was backing it in. The damage isn't all that bad. Today it currently sits in my garage on jackstands as I attempt to remove the Cat. So long 30 y/o cat hello magnaflow direct hit. I do plan on changing the exhaust to get that throatier V8 sound. I have heard the Hooker set up on an 84 olds with a 350 but I haven't heard much as far as others go on the 307. Thanks for reading!

I just turned 49 this month. Growing up, my Dad was a GM guy. I remember his first A-Body '78 Cutlass Supreme Brougham. Then he stayed with Olds Cutlass's for '81,'85, 2-'88 Cultass Classic's. When my Mom past away in '87 I got her '81 CS. Stupid me sold the car a couple years later. Then a few years later I bought a '86 Cutlass. That car turned out to be a dud. So I moved on to other interests and left the G-Body's alone for many years. I like Corvette's, so my interests stayed with those cars. I still have my first vette I bought 16 yrs. ago. The wife and I have had some modern muscle cars up until recently. Then one day she said she wanted a "old car." So we sold her '13 Challenger R/T 6 spd. and found our new ride. '87 442. Funny thing is, I have more interest in this car even though it isn't as fast nor handles like a modern car. I'm looking forward to doing a few thing to the car to improve the performance and handling without going to far whereas it would detract from the original looks. I'm keeping the body and interior stock, but I want to improve the Olds 350 under the hood but keep it looking like the 307 that was under there. I plan on doing a few things to the suspension to tighten it up a little. I got a kick out of seeing my 76 yr.old father reaction when we pulled up in this 442. I said "hey Dad, 1987 is calling you again." lol. Looking forward to hanging out here on the G-Body Forum.
