you're usually are right about stuff that's not too popular so you have me looking..
Popular stuff is overrated  From what I have found it looks like the first year for optional front disc brakes for GM and Chrysler was 67. I thought I seen somewhere that the 4-4-2s had the option earlier but im wrong. Ford had the option in 66 but no one cares.

I'm hoping it is the Rocket but it also could be a 330,correct?

??? Are you hoping it actually has a "rocket" as an engine? 🙂

FYI, the term rocket was just a marketing term. It has nothing to do with what engine is in a car.
Prime example why new members get annoyed and leave.
The fact that someone believes a person is stupid without actually knowing them is ridiculous!
So happens I have my Masters in Mathematics as well as my Navy Instructors' Dive Certificate.
Sorry you though I wanted a 'rocket ship engine' in my car.
Oh well....this is the internet. :blam:

I think Chevy trucks didnt get disk brakes till '72, not sure why...
Disc brakes were invented and designed originally for high speed vehicles because they dont fade as much....Drums are fine for most everything else.

Relax buddy. I seriously doubt he is questioning your intelligence. He is just using some humor I think to explain what the term "Rocket" really means. People get hung up on that term and think that if your air cleaner says rocket on it the car will automatically be much better than any other Oldsmobile engines. That is not the case.

Those 67's are very sweet. I've always wanted one. I had an opportunity to buy one about 5 years ago for a decent price. I just couldn't scrape up the money. Wish I had found a way though.

The simple fact that GM no longer makes Oldsmobile engines means that these motors are becoming rarer and more sought after everyday.... I love "Rocket" motors because they are unique and offer ample power compared to the run of the mill chebby/ford small block. It is true that the term means nothing in regards to power output technically, but the history of the Rocket power plant and of Oldsmobile itself can be kept alive and should be...and every time I open the hood or crank my engine, the first question I get asked is...."Is that a Rocket?" And I am always proud to say....Yep!!!

"All Olds V-8 pushrod engines produced between 1949 and 1990 are considered "Rocket" engines. The "Rocket" designation comes from the general design of these engines, not the HP rating. Super 88's with Rocket V-8s won many races in 1949 and through the 1950's. The Rocket V-8 has been credited with starting the quest for more power and hot rodding."......

Bought the car today for $450. It has a 330 and front disc brakes. The car has only 75,000 miles on it!!
Tearing motor out this weekend. Storing the car on jacks,in a closed garage, til I retire.
Then I'll rebuild one he** of a car!!
