the reason you have to wait till it kicks in is cause those sewing machine engines have no torque.....and if you read Honda's explanation of it it's for fuel efficiency, not performance. A friend of mine who owns a transmission shop loves those guys who hop up their hondas. He says he's rebuilt so many of those trannies he can do it with his eyes closed.

Honda manual trannies are fairly tough for what they are. You can run like 300 HP through without too much trouble. It's the users that wreck them, no fault of the trannies.
Also, there are plenty of guys in my city running EG/EK hatchback civics in the 10s, 11s, and 12s, in the 1/2. In a lot of ways the Honda D and B engines are like chevy motors. Simple, easy to fix with hand tools. Then you've got the H22 and K series motors, like the LS motors 🙂. You drop a NA K-series motor in a civic hatch and you can run 11s 🙂 They definately aren't fast in stock form. But neither are G-bodys! 🙂 But they are fun 🙂
