NYS DMV is a joke. Many of their motor vehicle regulations are a bigger joke. I remember writing to my assemblyman to repeal widow tint laws. Now they just passed a law that having window tint will make you fail the annual inspection.
They can take their seat belt laws, their front license plate requirements and their speed cameras on every corner and shove it. I don't appreciate that big brother is "looking out for me".

Several years ago I decided to get my dealers license as it was a good fit with the shop and getting cars for my customers. I took an 8 hour class and the only thing I came away with was do not pi** off the people behind the counter. I went in one day and that girl that usually handled my stuff was busy. I had been going there a couple of years and when I went to pay the fee I wrote out a check and she asked for my drivers license. Ok, new girl, fair enough. I handed her my resident Georgia license as my shops were in Tallahassee Fl. and she stated that she cannot take my check and she stood up and walked away.......After an excruciating long time the girl I usually used came over and told me who to ask for when my girl came back. Bonded, licensed, bank account all in Florida. good standing etc. I asked for the lady and advised her of situation and she stated that I need a Florida ID card. I advised her that I would need to write a check. She graciously allowed me to and I was never asked for ID again. There are some great people that work at the DMV buy da..!!!!
I hate to go there

I got so lucky at the njdmv yesterday!!!! All the women behind the counter were in grossed in useless banter and just wanted me to go away lol they never even read my paperwork! Forgot to take my registration application never asked for the power of attorney letter for the title because she never read the names on the front and back so I got a clean title in my name and qq plates $145 and get this I accidentally wrote the vin # to my pickup in as the insurance policy# whatever it's all good it's registered and insured!

I got a fat envelope in the mail today from DMV. All my paperwork came back. AAAARGH!!!! Denied again. Now they want $53 to register the plates on the wagon. Several MONTHS ago I had sent them a check for $3.57 for the new regi because that is what the website said it costs if the vehicle is presently registered. But since they dicked me around for so long- now the regular registration on the wagon has expired. I did not want to pay for another regular two-year registration only to waste a year because vintage plates can only be registered for one year. But wait! The vintage plates I want to use are still registered until April of 2018. Usually you can transfer the plates and balance of the regi right on to the new vehicle seamlessly. Why not now?!? Oh well- back in the mail it goes- again.

Sounds like you're having a lot more trouble with this than you should. Why do they have to make things so complicated? Good luck man, I hope you get it straightened out.

It cost me the same 53ish buxx to register my car with the old orange plates.

Did you send Albany a photo of both plates before trying to register them?

Does your insurance card say HISTORICAL on it?

I used to buy cars NY mv907a it sounds like getting title on them was easier buy it fix it save the receipt for everything bring it to Kingston boom title in the mail why can't your registration be like that?

When I registered mine with the old plates it was the easiest thing I ever did that involved DMV.

Everything was over the phone and through the mail.
