No shame being poor, my whole life has been on the cheap. It's not what you have, it's what you do with it. Thus, I am a welder, body man, electrician, painter, grease monkey, diagnostician, plasterer, plumber, landscaper, carpenter, glazier, engine re-builder, exhaust fabricator, and anything else I'd rather do myself than pay someone else. My advice is, buy the tools and learn how to do stuff, you get satisfaction and grow as a person.

amen!

NOw spend that income tax money before you "need" it for something! 😀

You just named some of the items many of us do on our own.
Salvaged materials are cheap, but skills & hard work are priceless.
Now if I only could add professional bra fitter to my resume. :wtf:

I wont laugh at you bud. It sounds like you got a fun project goin and id love to see how it comes along. Nothing to be ashamed about working on a budget weve all been there at some point. Working for my parts and doing it myself really helps me appreciate the things i have way more than it would if i just had them givin to me. It helps the sentimental value. When i go to car shows it surprises me how many kids are there with a toy they bought then they sit there and preach to you oh you will get rid of that car eventully everyone does but the problem with them is 99 percent of the time mommy and daddy bought it or they let someone else do the work and just buy the car from them and when you sit back and think is the car really theirs if they didnt build it? When you build something with all your sweat and tears and time and money thats when you can say this is mine and no one elses and really appriciate it for what it is and it could be the worst looking pos in the world or the best looking running car around and either way i know in my mind that to me that car would be 1000 times nicer than any new car il ever own because its paid for and its something i made.

Just like my malibu lol.

That whole paragraph was in a whole other language im sure but i hope at least one person is getting what im trying to say

I UNDERSTOOD EVERY WORD... I FEEL THE EXACT SAME WAY... and this budget build is just for me for now... my plans are to COMPLETELY REBUILD HER in a couple years when my daughter is a little older so she can help... whole reason i bought the monte is for a daddy daughter build... right now she is too young to really help much, but everyday when i go outside to work on the monte she is right there with me, she takes paper towels and wipes the car, she was even helpful enough to take a screwdriver to the passenger door...

haha well there ya go bud i hope you and your daughter get to spend alot of time together on this project so you both can enjoy it one day.
And just remember the forum is always here incase you need advice 😀

Sounds like you are pretty handy, so building a car with your daughter should be a ton of fun and memories. I can recall a lot of times I did without cool parts because the kids needed braces and stuff. Just remember to be gracious if she totals it like mine did........... :blam:
